About The Position

As the largest provider of nonpublic special education schools in Maryland, Sheppard Pratt operates Type I, Type II, and residential schools across the state. We also offer a breadth of programs within local school systems that provide care, counseling, and guidance. This role involves ensuring compliance with COMAR regulations, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), as well as the implementation of state and local school system curriculum and evidence-based practices in assessment and instruction.

Requirements

  • A master’s degree in special education.
  • Must possess or demonstrate eligibility to apply within 30 days of start date, MSDE Professional License (PL) in secondary education or special education.
  • 4 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate assigned school curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices under the direction of senior school leadership.
  • Assist teachers in implementing curriculum that meets the diverse needs of all students and include on-going evaluative measures.
  • Support teachers in selection of informal and formal assessments and conducting formal assessments when appropriate.
  • Provide constructive feedback and professional development opportunities to teachers and other staff.
  • Ensure use of evidence-based instruction and student engagement strategies in all classrooms.
