About The Position

Designs and develops Houston ISD curriculum for Kindergarten through 5th grade Reading Language Arts, including Science of Reading-aligned instruction. Emphasizes creation of high-quality, teacher-facing instructional materials, including slide decks, Demonstrations of Learning (DOLs), literacy activities, and differentiated assignments aligned to daily learning objectives to support effective classroom implementation.

Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops high-quality, TEKS-aligned K-5 RLA curriculum within the district’s instructional framework, including daily lesson materials, assessments (e.g., daily, formative, and summative), and scaffolded supports.
  • Creates differentiated literacy materials to support diverse learners, including scaffolds for reading comprehension and written expression.
  • Ensures alignment to TEKS and best practices in secondary literacy instruction.
  • Collaborates in PLCs/brain trust sessions and iterates deliverables to refine curriculum, ensure clarity, and improve instructional effectiveness.
  • Ensures curriculum is rigorous, coherent, and actionable for teachers, and continuously improves materials based on student data, teacher feedback, and implementation outcomes.
  • Participate in professional learning to internalize standards and strengthen literacy curriculum design practices materials based on student data, teacher feedback, and implementation outcomes.
