About The Position

The Upward Bound Math Science (UBMS) program is seeking a Curriculum Coordinator to provide tutoring in math and science at target schools and online. This role involves teaching STEM and sections workshops, managing the design and implementation of UBMS curriculum, and assisting the Director in student placement in STEM classes and coordination of the Summer Academy. The coordinator will also help plan program events, field trips, academic and enrichment workshops, and mentoring and internship opportunities. Additionally, this position will help manage the online learning environment, tutorial resources, and the program website, portal, and online communication tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math.
  • At least two years’ experience tutoring or teaching Mathematics through Calculus.
  • A strong math background.
  • Experience in curriculum design.
  • Experience in online instruction and effective use of educational technology.
  • Knowledge of effective tutoring strategies and tools.
  • Knowledge of career exploration resources and postsecondary institutions and college admissions.
  • Ability to coordinate group activities.
  • Ability to help select, train and help supervise part-time staff and student workers.

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching certificate and/or bilingual preferred.
  • Past TRIO participant and/or experience in working with disadvantaged students and their families preferred.
  • Experience in graphical design of instructional materials for the web.
  • Knowledge of web and graphic software.
  • Experience working with databases and gathering data from users on the web.
  • Experience in working with WordPress, Excel, FileMaker, and Adobe Creative Suite.

Responsibilities

  • Meet with students at each target school and online to provide STEM tutoring and advising, monitor student progress, and communicate with students, families, teachers, and guidance counselors to support students and overcome obstacles to their success.
  • Advise students about course selection and placement in advanced coursework and arrange for tutorial support, behavioral interventions, or referral to service agencies when needed.
  • Coordinate and develop curricula for a two-year Summer STEM Survival Skills curriculum and teach Summer STEM or section classes.
  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of comprehensive need assessments for Summer Academy STEM courses.
  • Revise curricula, coordinate activities, and present at Saturday Workshops.
  • Assist the Director in developing and implementing the Summer Academy by collaborating with UW departments, faculty, and staff to enlist lecturers and teaching staff and provide opportunities and a rich curriculum for UBMS students.
  • Direct the planning and implementation of STEM field trips and activities and the Summer Awards Ceremony.
  • With the Director, help manage the design and implementation of UBMS mentor groups including needs assessment, curriculum development, and coordination of academic and enrichment workshops for program participants.
  • Create dynamic and interactive STEM content and information about graduation requirements, postsecondary admissions, financial aid, and career development for the program website and student and staff portals.
  • Deliver online webinars and tutorials.
  • With the Director, help maintain the systems utilized for collecting, organizing, and presenting information including databases, web sites, and content management systems.
  • Assist in recruitment and enrollment of new students.
  • Conduct presentations and informational meetings.
  • Help review applications for completion and eligibility and collect missing documentation and student school records and assure proper entry into the program database.
  • Assist in reviewing, selecting, and notifying applicants to the program.
  • Work with the Director and Counselling Services Coordinator to utilize the UBMS database to generate required reports and input data as required and prepare for the Annual Performance Report (APR).
  • Liaison with teachers, counselors, and support staff at target schools and represent the UBMS program in meetings and other functions both on and off campus.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director.
