About The Position

Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is dedicated to welcoming everyone to celebrate the American spirit by uniting the power of art with the beauty of nature. Founded by Alice Walton, it is a public non-profit charitable organization. The Momentary, an extension of Crystal Bridges, serves as a venue for contemporary art, music, and food, acting as a catalyst for creativity and community engagement. This internship is specifically for current students in the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville MA in Art History of Arts of the Americas Program. The intern will report to the Windgate Curator of Craft and support various projects within the Curatorial/Art Management division. These projects include exhibition development, in-depth object research, writing interpretive content like object labels, and contributing to initiatives focused on the museum's craft collection, spanning from historical to contemporary pieces. The role is designed to help bring innovative projects to life, offering essential support for craft-related initiatives and allowing the intern to apply academic knowledge and skills in a professional setting.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in University of Arkansas, Fayetteville MA program in Art History
  • Interest in American craft, historical to contemporary
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Demonstrated research and writing skills
  • Positive attitude and collaborative spirit
  • Ability to maintain the highest levels of confidentiality and discretion
  • Proficiency in using standard office equipment including copiers and telephone, as well as Microsoft 365 applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Proper identification verifying eligibility to work in the United States on your first day of work.

Responsibilities

  • Build object files for collection objects including works in ceramics, wood, fiber, glass, and metal.
  • Fact-check information, write object-related content, and prepare presentations for internal and external audiences.
  • Conduct research on potential acquisitions to support the growth of the museum’s diverse holdings in American craft.
  • Research, interpretation, and checklist organization for future exhibition projects, whose focus may include contemporary fiber art.
