About The Position

Dewberry has an immediate opportunity for a full-time, Cultural Resources Department Manager within our national cultural resources practice group in our Parsippany NJ office. The qualified candidate must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s (SOI) standards for Archaeology and/or Architectural History. Candidates will demonstrate at least 20 years plus of professional experience managing historic architectural and archaeological field surveys, supervising field surveys and report documentation, utilizing permanent and temporary staff. Experience assembling field survey teams, often on an expedited schedules in various states and locations. Familiarity and proficiency with federal, state and local regulations and review agencies is required, including Section 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The selected individual will contribute to business development to build backlog and be responsible for managing the team's workload. Requirements

  • Possess a Master’s degree in historic preservation, architectural history, anthropology, archeology or closely related field;
  • Demonstrate a minimum of 20 years of full-time professional experience, including preparation of historic structures and archeological research reports, and preparation of plans and specifications for preservation projects.
  • Demonstrate concise technical writing skills.
  • Ability to manage the completion of informal and formal Section 106 consultation with Historic Preservation Officers and coordination with federal and state cultural resource staff;
  • Professional Certifications as Registered Professional Archeologist or SOI Architectural Historian
  • Experience writing proposals, making presentations, and participating in professional organizations
  • Occasional travel is required
  • Must have a conspicuous active presence in various technical and professional organizations, and proven experience in business development and developing client relationships
  • Must have experience with Federal and state regulations in PA, NJ, NY, and MA., and familiarity with other state regulations
  • Must have permitting experience and relationships with local, state, and federal agencies and stat historic preservation offices across Dewberry’s geography

Responsibilities

  • Lead Dewberry’s nationwide cultural resource practice group of terrestrial archaeologists, maritime archaeologists, architectural historians, and historians;
  • Experience identifying, evaluating, and recording historic properties; conducting historic, archaeological, architectural, geomorphological, and genealogical studies; monitoring construction; and conducting impact assessments.
  • Management of Phase IA, Phase IB, Phase II Archaeological Surveys and Evaluations, and Phase III Archaeological Mitigation and Data Recovery.
  • Management of historic properties documentation in accordance with Historic American Building Survey/Historic American Engineer Record/Historic American Landscapes Survey (HABS/HAER/HALS) standards and guidelines.
  • Management of staff documentation and identification of historic preservation and archeological issues and identification of Areas of Potential Effect (APE). Oversight of physical field inspections of APEs will be required.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate with involved parties, Federal, State and local agencies, to make important decisions about project alternatives and the resolution of adverse effects to historic and archeological resources.
  • Streamline and expedite projects through the Section 106 project review process;
  • Departmental Management responsibilities including the development department staffing projections; review deliverables, develop projects scope, budgets, schedules; perform personnel assignments and personnel reviews
