About The Position

The Culinary Arts Specialist will maintain all facets of the kitchen. He/She will be responsible for food prep and kitchen supply inventory. This person will work closely with the program supervisor to assure all of the above stated Kitchen/Food tasks are completed, according to the Department of Health/Child and Adult Care Food Program regulatory code.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • One year experience in cooking preferred.
  • Maintains NYS Driver’s license within agency criteria.
  • Computer literacy required.
  • Must be able to able to lift and carry(50 pounds)
  • Must be able to adapt to perform repetitious tasks of preparing and portioning foods under specific instructions
  • Flexibility in schedule as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Follow written and oral instruction to prepare portions of food
  • Prepares meals ensuring high quality, proper quantity and precise measurement
  • Operates all kitchen equipment including meat slicer, dishwasher, stove etc. Brings any malfunction to the attention of management in a timely manner
  • Responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen, washes and sanitizes all dishes, utensils, glasses, pots and pans, etc
  • Assists in serving meals to individuals and staff
  • Acts as a resource to staff in regard to use of kitchen and it’s equipment
  • Liaison between program staff and management team with respect to client involvement in kitchen activities or program curriculum
  • Promotes a warm, caring environment in a professional, courteous manner
  • Provides coverage to the day programs when all kitchen functions are complete as directed by immediate supervisor or program manager
  • Required to drive agency vehicles for shopping, errands or other purposes as defined by the program supervisor.
  • Able to facilitate reports, participate in kitchen documentation (i.e., attendance in kitchen, progress on kitchen usage, and maintain schedule of kitchen usage).
  • Drives agency vehicle as needed for outings, & accompany trips on outings to assure that S.O.S. will be delivered as requested in plans of care.
  • Ensures that all vehicles meet agency regulations concerning gas, maintenance, and operations while using them for shopping/food delivery, etc.
  • Ensure that all individuals are provided equal kitchen opportunities as per the Day Habilitation Plan.
  • Available to provide classroom coverage as needed by request of Program Management Team.
  • Serve as coordinator for bus duty in conjunction with other clinical staff.
  • Assist in fundraising events.
  • Assures kitchen cleanliness.
  • Interrupts and reports suspected abuse to Administrator immediately.
  • Employee conducts themselves in conformity with the HIPAA Compliance Program, applicable institutional policies and procedures for individual privacy and the Mercy Hospital Electronic Information Security Policies and Procedures.
  • Job requires access to all individual protected health information (PHI), in accordance with the Health Information Privacy and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
  • Keeps Program Manager/Team Leader advised of significant issues.
  • Follows agency policy in regards to attendance.
  • Follows agency policy in regards to tardiness.
