Our food program features cafe style faire such as breakfast sandwiches, yogurt bowls, toast and Italian Schiacciata style sandwiches with a focus on housemade and local ingredients. Position Overview As the Culinary Manager you will be a major contributor in our cafe and retail food programs with a primary role in hiring, scheduling, systems, menu development, training and support. This collaborative position involves daily interaction with cafe managers and barista staff, ownership, operations team and marketing department to support our food food program at the Pearl St. Cafe. This role requires an individual who leads by example, consistently upholds company standards, and fosters a positive - high-performance work environment. The Culinary Manager will be responsible for the support and development of line cooks, organization of kitchen, ensuring department sales goals and labor costs are met and company standards of quality and service are upheld by all. The Culinary manager will maintain proper inventory levels and controls to encourage and promote smooth operations. Additionally, the Culinary Manager communicates effectively with company leadership regarding needs of their department and strives to advocate for their team while keeping company goals, values and business realities in mind.

Requirements

  • A love for food and coffee.
  • 1+ years in a cook position preferably in a leadership role.
  • Serve safe manager certification a plus
  • Flexible schedule with weekend availability.
  • Valid driver's license and personal vehicle.
  • A passion for hospitality and uplifting your community.
  • Ability to stay positive and focused under pressure.
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Solid management and problem solving skills.
  • A detail-oriented approach, planning and time management are key.
  • Accountability and reliability.
  • Ability to model teamwork, give and receive critical feedback in a constructive manner.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all Pearl Cafe Culinary systems including but not limited to kitchen layout, equipment needs and upkeep.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors. Ensure the department is properly-stocked and organized by maintaining accurate records and placing timely orders-, as well as handling receipts and invoices.
  • Recruit and onboard new employees. Maintain healthy staffing levels at all times so that we can meet our service and business goals.
  • Provide training, real-time coaching and regular performance reviews to ensure staff meet performance expectations and ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures including dress code, health and safety regulations, and operational guidelines.
  • Ensure all food produced consistently meets Boxcar's quality standards through regular monitoring and feedback.
  • Drive refinements and develop new recipes as needed in collaboration with the leadership team.
  • Ensure that Boxcar’s high standards of hospitality and service are upheld at all times by all members of the Culinary team.
  • Maintain a positive, energetic work atmosphere. Ensure that our company values are upheld through modeling and regular feedback.
  • Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures including dress code, health and safety guidelines regulations, and operational. Maintain ServSafe certification.
  • Attend company management meetings as needed and provide updates to the Operations Director on staff performance, customer feedback, and department operations.
  • Track and deliver on departmental goals including all financial and operational goals as agreed upon by the team.
