About The Position

21st Century Charter School at Gary is seeking a dedicated Culinary Arts Teacher for Middle School/High School. This tuition-free, public charter school is part of the GEO Academies network, committed to providing an outstanding education for students in grades K-12. The school emphasizes a blended learning model, Core Knowledge, and Teach Like a Champion strategies. Students have the opportunity to take dual credit courses with local colleges and universities at no cost.

Requirements

  • Possesses an earned associate's or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 5 years of directly related experience in the culinary arts field.
  • Holds professional certification in the field.
  • NRAEF SERV Safe manager certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • NRAEF SERV Safe instructor/Proctor status preferred or ability to achieve within set time frame.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the culinary arts field and interpret theories.
  • Connect culinary arts subject matter with related fields and stay current through professional development.
  • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate assignments.
  • Communicate culinary arts subject matter effectively to students.
  • Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials for culinary arts.
  • Support classroom efforts to promote student success in culinary arts.
  • Plan and organize instruction to maximize student learning in culinary arts.
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies, modifying them to meet diverse student needs.
  • Utilize instructional technology when appropriate.
  • Establish and adhere to learning objectives for culinary arts courses.
  • Develop evaluation methods that fairly measure student progress.
  • Evaluate and return student work to promote maximum learning.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters and attendance rosters.
  • Meet scheduled classes in accordance with school policy.
  • Prepare, distribute, and submit syllabi and approved course outlines.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student information.
  • Exercise stewardship of school facilities and materials.
  • Contribute to program curriculum development processes.
  • Attend all staff meetings and events.
