About The Position

Committed to creating and preparing quality, healthy vegan lunches as well as preparing food and working during frequent on and off-site catering functions, workshops and special dinners sanctuary-wide for all employees, volunteers, founders and visitors.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Previous related experience preferable but will train the right person.
  • Outgoing positive personality and communication skills.
  • The ideal person for this job would be a team player, personable, professional, and able to get along well with a wide variety of people.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Flexible and enjoys handling a variety of tasks.
  • Demonstrates personal accountability to ensure that all responsibilities are completed effectively and in a timely manner.
  • Accurate, appropriate, clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.

  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Must be able to use email and navigate pdf, word, and excel documents.
  • Also need to be able to complete forms, save, and send as attachments to emails.
  • Able and willing to professionally advocate Best Friends position on issues.
  • Attend training sessions when assigned or requested.
  • Must be able to routinely lift 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions, with temperatures ranging from below freezing to above 100 degrees.
  • Must be able to perform strenuous physical activity on a daily basis, including, but not limited to climbing up and down ladders, lifting and carrying, reaching, stooping, squatting, cleaning and bending.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and qualify for Best Friends insurance.
  • Must be willing to work weekends and holidays when needed for operational coverage.
  • During the selection process, candidates may be asked to participate in an onsite working interview.
  • Applicants for employment in the U.S. must have valid work authorization that does not now and/or will not in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the U.S. by Best Friends Animal Society.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all food preparation and handling.
  • Prepare special meal substitutes when necessary.
  • Serve all guests during peak lunch service properly, including bussing and pre-bussing tables, refilling drink options when applicable, and keeping dining room area clean.
  • Interact with visitors, volunteers, and staff in a positive and respectful manner.
  • Keep buffet, salad bar, and drink area well stocked and clean at all times.
  • Wash dishes.
  • Participate in all around cleaning and deep cleaning, completing weekly and monthly chore assignments.
  • Work on and off-site catering functions when needed.
  • Be able to operate register properly with no shrinkage during lunch period.
  • Handle and operate all kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Comply with all health codes and inspections.
  • Record temperature of fridges/freezers daily.
  • Unload food deliveries and stock appropriately.
  • Must be able to work weekends including Sundays, and some evenings.
  • Assist other team members with their work.
  • Identify improvement to tasks.
  • Bring any issues immediately to Hospitality Services Manager's attention.
  • Keep abreast of Best Friends current news by checking personal email daily.
  • Engage in a safe, healthy, and positive work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned by Hospitality Services Manager.
