About The Position

The Payroll Cross-Functional Team Member (CTM) for Nutrition Services is responsible for overseeing and executing all payroll operations for a department of approximately 2,000 employees. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, manages payroll staff performance, and maintains compliance with district policies and payroll regulations. The CTM serves as the primary liaison between the Nutrition Services department and the main HISD Payroll office, ensuring seamless coordination and communication. Key responsibilities include auditing payroll data entries, processing employee bonuses, managing timecard records, and maintaining the department’s timekeeping system (TCP). Also, the role oversees the preparation and distribution of payroll, attendance, and overtime reports using SAP, Time Clock Plus, Oracle, and other systems. Additionally, the role involves training Food Service staff on payroll procedures, recommending policy improvements, and managing employee benefits enrollment, changes, and terminations. This position requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels to ensure clarity in payroll matters, including paycheck accuracy, time tracking, and leave management.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively communicates with Nutrition Services employees daily to ensure employees understand their paychecks, clock in time, and/or personal leave time management.
  • Manages personnel to enhance productivity of Payroll Staff, to ensure departmental goals are met.
  • Review/Audit Payroll Clerks data entry.
  • Communicate with the Nutrition Service Department payroll guidelines, by ensuring Food Service staff is adequately trained.
  • Maintain and enter employee stipend and incentive payouts while working with HISD Compensation department.
  • Review and enter timecard records prior to payroll as needed.
  • Enter transfer and title changes with appropriate effective dates into the department’s time clock system (TCP).
  • Ensure that payroll is entered accurately and effectively for a department of 2500 employees.
  • Processes and distribute payroll reports for processing utilizing the SAP and Time Clock Plus systems on a weekly basis.
  • Work with Main HISD Payroll in processing the Nutrition Service Payroll.
  • Recommend necessary revisions to policy and operational procedures to improve and enhance Food Service payroll processing.
  • Prepare and execute all Time and Labor reports for Nutrition Service payroll and Benefits that are required by District officials.
  • Execute and distribute Employee Attendance Reports.
  • Execute and distribute Employee Overtime Reports to Department Heads.
  • Manages benefits enrollments, changes and terminations with benefit carriers.
  • Perform onboarding tasks for new hires, training during in-service, collect necessary documentation, and maintain record keeping guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.
