About The Position

This position, in collaboration with other stakeholders develops and implements a rigorous technology education program and provides co curricular educational services for students.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited college or university in an approved program of study.
  • Holds or is eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the appropriate area (Business and IT, Technology Education, Health and Medical Science, Computer Science, Family and Consumer Science, or JROTC instructor approval)
  • Possesses outstanding knowledge and skill in the assigned instructional area and demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and learning in a project-based environment.
  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication with all stakeholders and staff. This includes the ability to communicate with diverse audiences to foster professional relationships.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
  • Experience working directly with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Familiarity with equity and inclusion frameworks.
  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Respects the worth, dignity and individual differences of others.
  • Proficiency in the use of a variety of office/instructional equipment and technology with experience using Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and email.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and the community.
  • Experience operating and teaching appropriate tools for the content area.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of CTE curriculum to facilitate project-based learning.
  • Builds a classroom culture in which students learn technology education through project-based, hands-on, and experiential means.
  • Prepares students to follow a rigorous pathway from novice to advanced classes by motivating them to engage in properly leveled coursework that empowers individuals to think critically and take ownership of their advancement.
  • Support students in co curricular activities related to the CTE area.
  • Develops strong relationships with local businesses for student mentorship and partnership opportunities.
  • Prepares students for college and career by developing their skills/competencies according to a state-approved list in each course.
  • Designs engaging lessons that inspire students to do their best work in an inquiry-based or project-based instructional framework.
  • Follows all industry standard precautions to protect students, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Follows VDOE and industry best practices for lab spaces, safety and equipment.
  • Follows appropriate safety procedures and properly maintains equipment.
  • Maintains appropriate state licensure; assumes responsibility for and participates in staff development (professional growth) and training to keep materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
  • Actively participates in and attends all required meetings.
  • Maintains confidentiality when appropriate.
  • Complies with and supports school division policies, regulations, procedures, and the HCPS Strategic Plan.
  • Effectively performs other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  • Clean, maintain, and inventory laboratory equipment (Technology Education, FACS, or health science)
  • Lead an active chapter of the affiliated Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO) including maintaining appropriate paperwork and accompanying students to local, regional, and national events and competitions.
