About The Position

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth, and enable students to develop competencies and skills necessary to be successful in the field of cosmetology. Additionally, to prepare students for the State Operator’s Licensure Exam given by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).

Requirements

  • Valid Texas Trade & Industrial Education teaching certificate with required endorsements and work experience for subject and level assigned
  • Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Operator’s State License
  • Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Instructor’s State License
  • Valid Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Operator’s State License
  • Valid Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Instructor’s State License

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and prepare students for the TDLR Cosmetology State Licensure Exam.
  • Maintain building salon space and documentation required for TDLR inspection purposes.
  • Develop long- and short-range plans for the Cosmetology instructional program.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.
  • Work cooperatively with special education staff to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Cooperate with other members of staff for planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Implement technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
  • Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned, and sponsor outside activities as approved by the campus principal.
  • Present positive role model for students.
  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations and IEPs.
  • Present a positive role model for students; demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials; including the items needed for the cosmetology kit.
  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Participate in campus and district staff development programs.
  • Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile and maintain all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents as required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Articulate the district’s mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  • Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs by maintaining and leading subject matter advisory committee.
  • Initiate activities to meet identified industry needs.
  • Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques to enhance community and parent involvement in the local school system.
