About The Position

Columbia Heights High School is seeking a CTE (Industrial Arts) Teacher for the Fall 2026 semester. This is a 1.0 FTE (benefit eligible) position beginning August 2026. The teacher will be responsible for teaching technology and engineering subject matter, working with diverse students, and motivating them to achieve their maximum potential. The role involves developing lesson plans, adapting teaching methods, assessing student needs, and maintaining student records. The position is under the limited supervision of the Principal.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with coursework in teaching, or related field.
  • Minimal experience teaching or working with children, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of subject(s) taught.
  • Thorough knowledge of the practices, procedures, principles and methodology of effective teaching.
  • Thorough knowledge of district rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain standards of behavior.
  • Ability to deliver articulate oral presentations and written reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students and parents.
  • Minnesota Teaching License.

Nice To Haves

  • CTE License in Manufacturing and/or Construction preferred.
  • Candidates with experience and/or proven skills working with diverse students.
  • Experience with arts integration.
  • Experience with Developmental Designs.
  • Experience with Responsive Classroom Strategies.
  • Experience working in a multi-cultural setting and with diverse groups of people preferred.
  • Alternatives to the qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable will also be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Work as an Industrial Arts Teacher at Columbia Heights High School.
  • Perform difficult professional work teaching in a secondary school instructional program and class environment favorable to learning.
  • Teach technology and engineering subject matter(s).
  • Teach special needs students.
  • Motivate students to achieve maximum potential.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials.
  • Translates lesson plans into effective learning experiences; integrates subject area content and technology.
  • Adapts teaching materials and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments that guide and challenge students.
  • Instructs students in specialization and subject matter areas specified in state law and administrative regulations and District procedures.
  • Develops standards for critical analysis through group discussions.
  • Implements National/State and local standards.
  • Creates and participates on advisory boards including, but not limited to community partners; supports community partnerships.
  • Participates in creating college and career ready pathways for classes.
  • Assesses and evaluates student's needs; provides instruction in individual or group sessions; acts as a mentor to students; establishes and maintains behavior standards.
  • Formulates and implements behavior modification programs for students.
  • Administers standardized assessments in accordance with established procedures.
  • Encourages students to think independently along with developing and expressing original ideas.
  • Evaluates students' progress; maintains records; prepares progress reports.
  • Communicates with students, counselors and parents through conferences and other means.
  • Maintains professional licensing and familiarity through in-service education and self-selected professional books and instructional materials.
  • Organizes classroom and distributes materials.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs, faculty committees and student activity sponsorship as required.
  • Completes required Minnesota Department of Education program approval.
