About The Position

The CTE Construction Trades Teacher will be responsible for delivering instruction for the Construction Trades program at Three Rivers High School. Specific duties will include working with students from the St. Joseph County CTE Consortium and following the Michigan Department of Education – Office of Career and Technical Education’s (OCTE) required curriculum. Collaboration with Habitat for Humanity (St. Joseph County Michigan) will also be necessary for residential building projects involving students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Career and Technical Education (or related field)
  • Michigan Residential Builders License
  • Building experience
  • Previous teaching experience or a combination of education and experience commensurate with the duties of this position; OR If none of the above qualifications are met, then 4,000 hours of recent and relevant work experience in the Construction Trades field may suffice to become eligible for the Michigan Department of Education Annual Career Authorization (ACA) in the following CIP code: 46.0000 (Construction Trades)
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certification(s), approval(s), etc. and provide documentation to the business office before expiration date of said document(s).
  • Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job

Responsibilities

  • Perform the primary role of a leader of learning for CTE Construction Trades students.
  • Demonstrate experience in residential construction with proficiency in: foundations; rough framing; roofing; siding; window/door installation; residential wiring and plumbing; insulation; masonry; drywall; and finish carpentry.
  • Instruct students individually and in groups, using various teaching methods, such as lectures, discussions, and demonstrations.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students.
  • Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate.
  • Provide work-based learning activities that reinforce learning.
  • Promote ongoing interaction between pupils and businesses to strengthen the relationship between schools and community.
  • Develop and implement instructional plans which will allow students to meet established standards of student achievement and focus on basic workplace and job specific skills in preparation for career placement.
  • Assist in the maintenance of supplies and equipment assigned, including and not limited to inventory of supplies and equipment, supervising the use of supplies and equipment, instruction on the proper use of supplies and operation of equipment.
  • Ability to work on ladders, scaffolding, and similar situations that involve heights, and being able to do heavy lifting, as required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to follow and model all OSHA and district safety precautions and procedures.
  • Teach students the correct and safe operation of all tools and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned by ISD Administration.
