About The Position

This is a standard position description for a certificated teaching position with similar duties, responsibilities, classification, and compensation. The CTE Agriculture program has three primary goals: Integrate 21st Century Standards in courses and CTSOs, align standards to post-secondary articulations or recognized industry certifications, and connect students to careers in the Agriculture/Science/STEM Field. The teacher will assume responsibility for the High School Agriculture Science Programs, attend Agriculture Science trainings, and maintain and develop outside garden/farm space. They will work towards CTE Dual Credit or College in the High School options in coursework, prepare for classes, and make a commitment to teach all students regardless of learning style or limitations. The role requires bell-to-bell instruction using best practices, including student evaluation (formative assessment), and creating a safe and positive learning environment. The teacher will hold CTE Advisory Meetings, advise student leadership organizations, and adhere to all North Thurston Public School’s policies. They will actively engage students, incorporate higher-level thinking skills, be a team player, and establish open communication with students, parents, and colleagues. Innovation and commitment to educational change and student success are expected. Participation in workshops, training sessions, monthly staff meetings, and professional development days is required. The teacher must maintain a secure classroom environment and supervise student activities outside the school day as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Valid CTE Certification or ability to achieve certification
  • Previous experience in a similar setting
  • Industry related experience
  • Knowledge of Farm based labs
  • Knowledge of CTE and/or project-based learning
  • Knowledge of Technology and equipment used in agriculture CTE Courses
  • Knowledge of FFA or equivalent CTSOs
  • Knowledge of Agriculture based curriculum
  • Knowledge and incorporation of 21st Century Learning Skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of grade appropriate Classroom Based Assessments for Career and Technical Education
  • Evidence of motivating and instructing students of all ability levels.
  • Evidence of providing for individual student learning styles.
  • Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as with parents and colleagues.
  • Evidence of alignment to Common Core State Standards in Agriculture/Science
  • Evidence of excellent inter-personal skills with other staff members, organization, and ability to follow standard operating procedures.
  • Dynamic, interactive, student involving, hands-on instructional style.
  • If invited to interview, be prepared with a personal portfolio of your work.
  • Experience with industry based advisory committees and community partnerships.
  • Must be an active participant in program advisories (Skills USA, FFA, other equivalent CTSOs or other CTE-based oustide classroom experiences).
  • Must also be able to embed 21st Century Skills and Student Leadership Skills within curricula.
  • Must maintain First Aid card.
  • Satisfactory fingerprint and sexual misconduct background check.

  • Ability to develop CTE Frameworks in Agriculture in alignment to 21st Century Skills and Common Core State Standards
  • Knowledge FFA SAE and Competition or Student Leadership Training or experience in the Core Plus Program
  • Endorsed in General Science, Biology, Natural Resources

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for the High School Agriculture Science Programs.
  • Attend Agriculture Science trainings.
  • Maintain and develop outside garden/farm space.
  • Work towards CTE Dual Credit or College in the High School options in course work.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Make a commitment of time and energy required to teach all students, regardless of learning style or learning limitations.
  • Commit to bell-to-bell instruction using best practices including student evaluation (formative assessment).
  • Create a safe and positive learning environment for all students.
  • Adequately securing class and practice rooms when not physically present to supervise.
  • Hold CTE Advisory Meetings, minimum of three a year.
  • Advise student leadership organization.
  • Adhere to all North Thurston Public School’s policies and expectations for staff and students.
  • Actively engage students in the learning process.
  • Regularly incorporate higher level thinking and analytical skills in instruction, assessment, and performance.
  • Be a team player by establishing and maintaining cooperative professional relationships with others.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents and colleagues.
  • Be innovative and committed to the challenge of change in education.
  • Be committed to success for all students.
  • Participate in workshops and training sessions that support building and district programs and goals.
  • This includes monthly staff meetings and professional development days.
  • Maintain a secure classroom environment.
  • Supervise student activities outside the school day as appropriate.
