About The Position

Buchanan Community Schools is seeking a CTE - Advanced Auto Shop Instructor for Buchanan High School. The role involves instructing high school students in various science discipline courses, specifically within the Advanced Auto Shop Program. The instructor will be responsible for developing positive relationships, communicating effectively, teaching approved curriculum, and creating a conducive learning environment. This position requires planning and implementing lessons, evaluating student growth, and maintaining student behavior standards. The instructor will also manage classroom routines, request necessary equipment, maintain inventory, and contribute to a positive school image. Professional development and adherence to district policies are expected. The role includes planning accommodations for diverse learners, coordinating with support staff, and providing timely reports. A strong character, sense of humor, and compassion are valued. The instructor will also assist the CTE Director with documentation, budget planning, and program needs, while maintaining punctual attendance and performing other duties as assigned. The employee must remain free of substance abuse in the workplace.

Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or GED
  • For teaching in a subject or field in which a business or industry license or certification is required, at least ONE of the following is required: Holds a professional business license or industry certification in the same subject matter or field
  • Previously held a business or industry license or certification in that same subject matter or field that expired no more than two years before the non-certified, non-endorsed teacher’s initial employment under this section and was in good standing immediately before the license or certification expired.
  • Must have recent experience that is earned within the preceding ten-year period from the date of the application
  • ASE Certification
  • Vocational certification required or eligible to receive vocational certification
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, parents, peers, administrators, the general public, and the Board of Education.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement lessons based on divisions and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers, and parents; ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies; ability to use and integrate technology such as computers, e-mail, Internet, etc. to support student learning and facilitate program management.
  • Technologically literate using Chromebook computers and Google applications
  • Knowledge and prior use of State of Michigan Curriculum benchmarks and grade level content expectations.
  • Use of MDE curriculum in guiding planning, teaching and learning activities and strategies for all subject areas as well as formative and summative assessments.
  • Able to effectively take direction, as well as, work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to handle complex and stressful issues or situations with sound judgment, common sense, and a calm demeanor

Responsibilities

  • Instruct high school students enrolled in the Advanced Auto Shop Program
  • Develops positive relationships with administration, colleagues, parents, and students.
  • Cooperative team player in any group setting.

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interest, and abilities of the students
  • Arranges and sets up the classroom.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals, establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like to communicate these objectives to students
  • Utilizes a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved
  • Demonstrates successful teaching of school students in grades eleven through twelve grade
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and creating a climate respectful of all learners
  • Evaluates pupils’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Assigns grades to each student each grading period and report these grades in the manner prescribed by the principal.
  • Sends special reports home for any student who receives a failing grade
  • Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside of the instructional day
  • Carries out the routine management procedures, including taking and reporting attendance each period; signing corridor passes; passing out and collecting forms for the office, as well as other less common tasks
  • Requests the equipment, textbooks, etc. necessary to teach assigned classes.
  • Cares for the equipment assigned by requesting necessary maintenance and by carefully supervising student use of the equipment
  • Maintains inventory of equipment, furniture, and materials
  • Works to develop a positive feeling among students and the public toward Buchanan Community Schools
  • Keeps update of the latest developments in field, seeking to improve professional performance
  • Responsible for professional behavior consistent with the policies, procedures, and guidelines established by the Board of Education
  • Ability to plan and implement accommodations for ELL, Special Education, 504, and at-risk students
  • Plans and coordinates the procedures of parapros, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips
  • Provides accurate and timely reports as required by administration
  • Assists CTE Director with all CIP Self-Review documentation.
  • Plans budget and needs of program in conjunction with CTE Director.
  • Maintains regular, reliable and punctual attendance
  • Any other duties or responsibilities as deemed appropriate by the administration
  • Supervises students in the classroom.
