About The Position

The CT Technologist is responsible for safely and proficiently performing laboratory, general radiography, and computerized tomography imaging procedures and related patient care according to government regulations, physician orders, policies, and procedures of the Imaging Department and the facility. This role involves conducting regular inventory, ensuring proper supply levels, and adhering to all laws and company policies regarding radiology studies. The technologist will be responsible for proper documentation, consenting, and participating in facility certifications. Maintaining HIPAA compliance, ensuring facilities are clean and OSHA compliant, and training new staff are also key aspects of this position. The role requires keeping the radiology suite clean, upholding lab policies, and assisting in patient care within the scope of practice, which may include taking vital signs, preparing patients, running lab results, starting IVs, and assisting with procedures. Administering and documenting contrast material, following infection control and safety guidelines, and sending images for interpretation are essential duties. The technologist must accurately interpret scanning instructions, prepare and operate CT scan equipment, and position patients correctly for imaging. Attendance at mandatory skills training, maintaining professional certifications and licenses, completing CEUs and assigned education on time, and collaborating with health team members for patient well-being are also required. Daily QA performance, dose output checks, and the use of medical terminology are part of the daily routine. The position requires a focus on quality, technical understanding, dependability, analyzing information, and effective patient communication. The physical demands include regular talking and hearing, specific vision abilities, and intermittent physical activity such as standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting/supporting patients. The working environment is a healthcare setting with potential exposure to radiation, noise, infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, chemicals, fumes, odors, gases, dusts, moving mechanical parts, and toxic/caustic materials. Moderate noise from equipment is expected. The position requires standing, walking, sitting, use of hands, reaching, and may require climbing, kneeling, or crouching. Incumbents will be scheduled based on operational need, including rotating shifts, standby, and on-call duties. This job description is not exhaustive and duties may change.

Requirements

BLS required within first 30 days of employment
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); two-year college or technical school.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and follow HIPAA regulations.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
Basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
A graduate of a 2-year accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
Current registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (A.R.R.T.) required.
Must have and maintain M.R.T. registration with the Texas Medical Board.
Must have adequate CT experience and proven competence as determined by the Radiation Safety Officer.
BLS Certification required.
Completed company-provided laboratory testing course and competency.

Responsibilities

Performing laboratory, general radiography, and computerized tomography imaging procedures and related patient care.

Training all new staff to use the equipment, follow policy and procedures, know their duties, and become familiar with the work environment.
Keeping the radiology suite clean at all times.
Reviewing and upholding lab policies and procedures while assisting in the lab.
Assisting in patient care to the extent that training and education allow (e.g., obtaining vital signs, bringing patients back, swabbing patients, running lab results, starting IV’s, setting up for procedures).
Administering and documenting contrast material.
Following infection control and safety guidelines.
Sending images to the Radiologist for interpretation/reading.
Accurately interpreting a physician’s scanning instructions.
Preparing and operating CT scan equipment.
Positioning the patient to capture appropriate images.
Maintaining all required professional certifications and licenses.
Maintaining CEU's.
Completing yearly assigned education on time.
Collaborating with health team members to ensure the patient's well-being.
Performing Daily QA and documenting limits; informing the Radiology Leader if outside of limits.
Checking dose output on all CT exams performed.
Using of medical and radiologic terminology.
