The CT Technologist performs Computed Tomography procedures in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures to ensure the best possible patient care services are delivered.

Responsibilities

Performs all computed Tomography procedures according to established department protocols, including performing the appropriate volume of procedures, ensuring correct patient information and technical settings are entered, preparing and administering contrast media, performing venipuncture when needed, completing patient documentation, displaying working knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, processing and archiving images, completing filming, and sending image data to PACS.
Performs all tasks associated with the proper execution of a CT examination in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures, including accepting assignments, restocking and maintaining work areas, performing necessary cleaning, assisting in patient movement, and using appropriate restraint devices.
Performs all assigned RIS transactions to ensure accurate patient and procedure information is recorded for medical records and billing purposes, including completing exams in RIS, reviewing and correcting charges, and editing patient exam information in WIZ.
Performs visual maintenance checks on all equipment, performs quality assurance procedures, reports malfunctions, and records equipment downtimes.
Provides radiation protection to patient, staff, and self according to prescribed safety standards, including wearing and maintaining a dosimeter badge and complying with radiation safety practices.
Communicates with hospital staff and physicians to exchange pertinent patient information, assists in scheduling, handles calls with courtesy, and communicates patient-related problems using the appropriate chain of command.
Participates in on-call coverage as needed to ensure 24-hour coverage and displays flexibility by volunteering to work odd shifts.
Demonstrates competency in performing all procedures for age ranges from neonatal to geriatric, including explaining procedures, considering patient comfort, understanding emotional responses, respecting patient privacy, and abiding by the professional code of ethics.
Assists to identify patient and family learning needs and provides pertinent information regarding the procedure that is appropriate for age and level of learning.
Completes all documentation forms as required by the department, including incident forms, risk management forms, patient education forms, and discharge forms.
