The Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to produce diagnostic CT images of designated anatomic areas as prescribed by established scan protocols, while providing the appropriate care to the age of the patient served by the department of radiology. This role is responsible for coordinating timely throughput for CT patients by prioritizing exams based on priority level and escalating hurdles to timely completion to the Lead CT Technologist or Manager. The technologist will properly identify patients, check imaging orders, explain procedures with professionalism and compassion, and perform IV cannulation as prescribed. They will position patients ensuring comfort and modesty, select proper imaging protocols, and operate power injectors under supervision. The role also involves demonstrating knowledge of radiation safety, operating post-processing workstations, performing critiques of exams, and ensuring accurate and timely exam verification and archival. Additionally, the technologist will follow infection control and safety guidelines, clean and disinfect equipment and rooms, and stock assigned areas. They will also protocol exams for the next day and coordinate all aspects of care for the CT patient, including transportation, communication with nursing units, ethical judgment, critical thinking, patient confidentiality, and monitoring patient comfort.
