About The Position

The CT Technologist works under the supervision of the Radiology Manager. This position is responsible for scheduling CT examinations, receiving and reviewing patient requisitions, positioning patients for CT imaging, administering I.V. contrast media, performing computed tomography imaging examinations, and discharging patients. The role also involves performing miscellaneous related duties, including the Radiology Assistant's duties when needed, and other assigned tasks. This position requires the ability to provide care and service appropriate to the age of the patients served. Requirements

  • Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or tech-school
  • 1 year experience as a Radiology Technician
  • Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider Certification (or completed within 60 days of hire)
  • Completed ARRT requirements as evident by current/active ARRT status
  • Completion of the AART's Computer Tomography Clinical experience requirements to obtain CT Certification if not already CT certified through AART
  • Associates Degree or higher education
  • Registered Radiologic Technologist
  • BLS/CPR through the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Schedules CT examinations
  • Receives and reviews patient requisitions
  • Positions patients for CT imaging
  • Administers I.V. contrast media
  • Performs computed tomography imaging examinations
  • Discharges patients
  • Performs miscellaneous related duties
  • Performs the Radiology Assistant's duties when needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Explains examination to the patient and obtains a patient history
  • Positions patient for the examination according to established departmental protocols
  • Applies patient immobilization devices and gonad shielding as appropriate
  • Enters patient identification information in assigned computer systems
  • Selects radiation exposure and computer parameters in accordance with department protocols
  • Reviews CT images to insure acceptable image quality
  • Completes Patient Charges: Records all patient charges as scheduled by ordering physician
  • Documents clinical information in computer system and other specified data as required
  • Charges the procedure after performing the CT exam
  • Completes appropriate consent form for performing the procedure
  • Selects appropriate contrast media
  • Prepares I.V. contrast administration on established protocols
  • Explains and reviews contrast administration procedure consent with the patient
  • Follows universal precautions in accordance to Hospital policy
  • Adheres to I.V. Contrast Medication Administration guidelines as established by the department
  • Cleans CT equipment and accessories
  • Requests supplies from hospital stock to responsible designee
  • Coordinates time of CT examination with other imaging modalities as needed
  • Performs daily scanner calibration tests in accordance to manufacturer specifications
  • Assists in the cross-training of future personnel
  • Performs the Radiology Assistant role in the absence of personnel
  • Obtains in-patient and out-patient orders from the information system
  • Reviews requests for diagnosis and examination requested with interpreting physician to insure appropriate procedure is ordered
  • Arranges daily work schedule to accommodate emergent and inpatient CT requests
  • Follows the insurance pre-authorization requirements for payer compliance
  • Works with Central Scheduling to assist in scheduling outpatient CT examinations
  • Verifies indications for requested CT examinations on the daily schedule
  • Coordinates CT examinations with other radiology examinations
  • Manages the emergent and inpatient orders within the daily schedule
