About The Position

Operates a computed tomography (CT) scanner to produce cross-sectional radiographs of a patient's body for diagnostic purposes. This role requires the technologist to perform various duties related to patient care, scanner operation, and data management.

Requirements

Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Ability to work independently without direct supervision and make adjustments to scanning protocols when necessary.
Two years of College or Technical training program approved by J-Cert and/or ARRT.
Board Certification in both Radiology (R) and Computed Tomography (CT).
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintaining instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports, histories, and answer internal e-mails.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers and understand their response.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.
Must be able to carry objects up to 50 lbs.
Must be able to stand, stoop, lift, and walk without restrictions.
Must hold a certification from ARRT and be CT registered.
Continuing education in accordance with the ARRT, ACR, and State of Michigan.

RT(R) CT board certified preferred.

Responsibilities

Perform dual patient identity verification (name and birthdate).
Maintain a professional attitude, especially when handling STAT requests and accommodating patient needs.
Administer contrast media orally and/or intravenously via IV line.
Start, maintain, and safely administer IV contrast.
Enter scan data, including type of scan, slice thickness, scan time, and other technical factors into the operator's console.
Position and immobilize patients on the exam table using supportive devices to ensure precise positioning and adherence to Radiologist-specified protocols.
Select the correct CT protocol for scanning the ordered anatomic region.
Communicate effectively with patients face-to-face and via intercom, and consistently observe patients for safety, particularly during IV contrast administration.
Review all obtained images for quality and to identify any gross pathology.
Utilize the iStat blood analyzer to obtain creatinine and GFR levels.
Identify and understand the use of items in the drug/crash cart, and assist Radiologists and/or nursing staff during contrast reactions or emergencies.
Demonstrate competency in using PACS, RIS, and Management pages, along with general computer skills.
Burn CDs from the scanner or PACS in both viewer and DICOM formats, and import data from CDs to the scanner.
Assist in lifting help in other departments when possible.
Obtain and maintain all appropriate certifications.
Stay current on all Continuing Education (ECE's).
Follow ARRT and State of Michigan guidelines, including annual BLS and OSHA/Blood Borne pathogen certifications, and all RMI S.O.P. and policies.
