The CT Technologist performs CT scanning procedures at a technical level requiring constant attention to technical detail, requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiologic diagnosis. This role involves operating control consoles, selecting proper imaging techniques and protocols, and operating various peripheral hardware and equipment. The technologist is responsible for maintaining, setting up, and adjusting equipment, checking calibration daily. They position patients, apply immobilization devices, and ensure optimal views while adhering to health and safety precautions, quality assurance, and infection control standards. The role includes receiving requests, explaining procedures, managing patient anxieties, and ensuring patient safety and comfort. The technologist reviews CT imaging, relays emergent findings, administers IVs for contrast, and applies principles of radiographic protection to minimize radiation exposure. They coordinate work for maximum productivity, evaluate image quality, maintain proficiency in EMR and PACS systems, and keep adequate radiology records. The position requires assisting physicians with contrast media administration and maintaining knowledge of departmental and hospital policies, including infection control and disaster plans. Participation in professional development and continuing education is expected, along with maintaining ethical relationships and patient confidentiality. The role emphasizes providing service excellence to all individuals encountered.
