Our Values Respect | Belonging | Accountability | Transparency Department CT Scan Job Summary Under the direction of a radiologist, the CT Technologist I performs routine CT examinations following clearly defined protocols, working under close supervision to develop foundational technical skills and ensure safe, accurate imaging. This entry-level role applies basic knowledge of imaging procedures and radiation safety while completing well-established tasks that require minimal interpretation and follow standardized methods. The Level I technologist supports day-to-day departmental operations by performing routine technical duties, checking data for accuracy, and communicating basic information that requires little explanation to patients and team members. As a developing contributor, this role follows structured guidance from senior technologists and supervisor, highlights concerns when identified, and builds competency toward independent performance while contributing to consistent, patient-centered imaging services.

Requirements

  • Must have successfully completed an accredited ARRT program in Radiologic Technologies.
  • 1 year, or less of professional work experience in Medical Imaging.
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required
  • RTR-RT Radiography - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Required
  • RTCT-RT Computed Tomography - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Required
  • Demonstrated knowledge in how to operate CT equipment and related technology.
  • Knowledge of how to address age-specific care needs of patients.
  • Demonstrated technical skill sets in the performance of CT studies.
  • Demonstrable interpersonal skill sets that lead to effective communication and collaborations.
  • Competency in interpreting physician order requests for CT imaging studies.
  • Ability to exercise prudent judgment in selecting and configuring equipment settings to compensate for patient physiologic variances.
  • Ability to consistently produce quality images of various anatomical structures.

Responsibilities

  • Performs high quality CT imaging studies by selecting specific software parameters that will produce a quality image for use by radiologists in their determination of a diagnosis.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media for patient examinations according to radiologists’ direction. Technologist must ensure that the IV catheter, if used, is of the appropriate type, size, as well as in the correct location for contrast administration by means of an injector. Technologists must test injector with saline prior to contrast injection. The technologist must be in the room at the beginning of contrast injection.
  • Operates, on a day-to-day basis, PACS applications to include: archiving activities; image auto-routing; and pre-fetching tasks; image quality assurance and other related activities.
  • Ensures patient safety, comfort, and personal dignity by following appropriate patient care guidelines to include use of 2 patient identifiers. Uses Radiology Information System (RIS) system to input patient examination data and to place patient orders, when appropriate.
  • Verifies the physician order and relevant patient’s history in the medical chart. Prior to performance of a CT examination, consults with the relevant radiologist to obtain a written imaging study protocol.
  • In order to provide the necessary information for radiologists to interpret imagthe technologist scans all relevant clinical information into the PACS, assigns prioritization box for the radiologists’ work list, and then transmits current (and comparison images, when applicable) to the PACS. These activities must be completed immediately following examination completion, not to exceed 1 hour.
  • Assists in the maintenance of department inventory by ordering, stocking, and performing inventory checks on those medical supplies utilized when performing CT examinations.
  • Maintains imaging and processing equipment by performing scheduled cleanings and tests; results of all cleanings and tests are documented, as appropriate. Contacts service personnel and notifies supervisory staff of equipment malfunctions.
