About The Position

Operates a computed tomography (CT) scanner to produce cross-sectional radiographs of a patient's body for diagnostic purposes. This role involves administering contrast media, entering scan data, positioning patients, selecting appropriate CT protocols, communicating with patients, reviewing images, and utilizing various medical equipment and software. The technologist must also be knowledgeable about emergency procedures, PACS, RIS, and general computer skills. They are responsible for maintaining certifications and staying current with continuing education requirements, adhering to ARRT and State of Michigan guidelines, as well as company policies.

Requirements

  • Two years of College or Technical training program approved by J-Cert and/or ARRT.
  • Board Certification in both Radiology (R) and Computed Tomography (CT).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintaining instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports, histories, and answer internal e-mails.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and co-workers and understand their response.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.
  • Must be able to carry objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand, stoop, lift, and walk without restrictions.
  • Hold a certification from ARRT and be CT registered.
  • Continuing education in accordance with the ARRT, ACR, and State of Michigan.

  • RT(R) CT board certified preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform dual patient identity checks (name and birthdate).
  • Maintain a professional attitude, handling Stats and fitting in patients as needed.
  • Administer contrast media orally and/or intravenously.
  • Start, maintain, and safely administer IV contrast.
  • Enter scan data, adjust scan parameters (slice thickness, scan time, etc.) into the operator's console.
  • Position and immobilize patients on the exam table using supportive devices for precise positioning and adherence to Radiologist protocols.
  • Select the correct CT protocol for scanning the ordered anatomic region.
  • Communicate effectively with patients face-to-face and via intercom.
  • Observe patients through the control room window to ensure safety, especially during IV contrast administration.
  • Review all obtained images for quality and gross pathology.
  • Competently use iStat blood analyzer to obtain creatinine and GFR levels.
  • Identify and know the use of items in the drug/crash cart and assist during contrast reactions/emergencies.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of PACS, RIS, and Management pages, and possess general computer skills.
  • Burn CDs from the scanner or PACS in viewer and DICOM formats, and import data from CDs to the scanner.
  • Assist in other departments with lifting when possible.
  • Obtain and maintain all appropriate certifications.
  • Stay current on all Continuing Education (ECE's).
  • Follow ARRT and State of Michigan guidelines, including annual BLS and OSHA/Blood Borne pathogen certifications, and RMI S.O.P. and policies.
