About The Position

Under general supervision, prepares patients for and performs CT examinations. This role requires adherence to safety principles, compassion, respect, and accountability when interacting with patients and colleagues. The technologist will utilize hospital information systems, maintain a safe and clean working environment, and manage medical stock. Professional growth, medication security awareness, and infection prevention are key responsibilities. The role also involves assisting student technologists, transporting patients safely, and providing patients with procedural information. Evaluating medical histories, completing paperwork, and arranging for communication aids are also part of the duties. Department-specific competencies include cooperative problem-solving, administering contrast media under supervision, assessing pregnancy risk, adhering to safety policies, following Universal Protocol, calibrating equipment, applying Lean principles, and participating in on-call duties and new employee orientation.

Requirements

  • Graduate of AMA approved School of Radiologic Technology
  • Certified Radiologic Technologist (CRT)
  • ARRT License for Radiologic Technologist
  • BCLS or ACLS Certification

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for and performs CT examinations.
  • Uses ALARA and safety principles at all times.
  • Provides healthcare services to all age groups.
  • Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity for patients’ rights.
  • Completes all assigned procedures in a timely manner and uses time between procedures to department advantage.
  • Utilizes Hospital Information System (HIS), Radiology Information System (RIS) and PACS.
  • Answers telephone inquiries of a technical nature from physicians or hospital personnel.
  • Maintains a safe working environment: Keeps work area clean and free of hazards. Alerts appropriate resource of faulty or broken equipment. Observes all safety guidelines. Recognizes and reports unsafe acts.
  • Maintains appropriate quantities of medical stock for the department.
  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for own professional growth and practice including maintaining current licensure and completing educational requirements.
  • Understands his/her role in maintaining medication security to authorized personnel only.
  • Adheres to infection prevention guidelines: uses good hand washing technique, adheres to isolation policy, cleans equipment between patients, helps keep patient rooms and units clean, follows aseptic technique when opening sterile supplies, setting-up and doing procedures, disposes of infectious waste properly.
  • Assists student technologists who may rotate through the department.
  • Transports and moves patients using appropriate body mechanics and safety precautions. Demonstrates knowledge and practice of safe patient handling devices.
  • Provides patient and family with information/instructions regarding procedure, evaluating barriers to understanding.
  • Evaluates patients medical histories and clinical data.
  • Completes the necessary paperwork and notes discrepancies according to departmental procedure.
  • Determines need for translation services or communication aides and arranges for the appropriate resources to meet these needs.
  • Works cooperatively with all members of the department to resolve problems expediently.
  • Chooses, prepares and administers intravenous contrast media under supervision of the radiologist using proper protocols.
  • Administers oral contract to patients as needed.
  • Asks patient if they could be pregnant prior to starting exam.
  • Adheres to the Radiation Safety, Material Safety Data Sheet and Fire/Safety policies and procedures.
  • Follows Universal Protocol by using two patient identifiers prior to performing the exam, using pre-op/pre procedure verification check list, site marked with the physician’s initials and using “Time Out”.
  • Calibrates equipment for quality control.
  • Follows Lean principles and creates SOPs for the Department as needed.
  • Assumes on-call status and call back as assigned, responding within 30 minutes of receiving call.
  • Assists in training and orienting new employees.
