This involves capturing images of the body using various imaging methods, ensuring patient safety, and explaining procedures in simple terms for patient comfort. The ability to consistently produce high-quality images is essential for accurate physician diagnosis. This position requires working between the x-ray and CT departments, starting IVs for patients receiving contrast dye, and instructing patients on proper positioning for accurate images. The technologist is responsible for maintaining radiographic equipment, obtaining requested images, using radiation when necessary, and keeping track of patient records. They also assist radiologists and physicians in understanding and evaluating images, preventing radiation exposure to certain body areas, and communicating with patients about the procedure, including removing interfering garments or jewelry. Proper patient positioning, setting equipment for optimal image density, detail, and contrast, and applying knowledge of anatomy and physiology are key. The role demands clear communication, compassion, and professionalism with diverse patient populations, adherence to HIPAA, and accurate record-keeping, including checking patient orders and creatinine/GFR levels, reminding patients about diabetic medication, and obtaining consent before exams.
