Operates CT scanners to obtain images for use by providers in the diagnosis and treatment of pathologies and disease. Prepares patients for procedures, administers contrast media, operates scanners according to protocol using ALARA techniques. The CT Technologist provides quality patient care considering age specific, developmental, and cultural needs. They review patient charts and radiological history to determine proper protocol, identify patients, ensure proper positioning and immobilization, and explain procedures, providing reassurance and instructions. The role involves operating CT equipment, performing quality control checks, administering contrast media and monitoring for adverse reactions, documenting patient history, reactions, and following up with referring physicians. The technologist observes patient condition during CT exams and initiates emergency actions if necessary, maintains cleanliness and follows infection control procedures, and applies radiation safety knowledge while adhering to radiation safety regulations. They also schedule CT exams for optimal efficiency and equipment utilization.
