About The Position

The CT Technologist performs computed tomography examinations to produce images of various anatomical parts and systems for diagnostic purposes as directed by the radiologist. This role involves collecting pertinent patient data, verifying physician orders, ensuring proper screening protocols are followed, and communicating effectively with patients about the procedure. The technologist analyzes information to determine optimal imaging parameters, assesses patient preparation and contraindications, and selects appropriate shielding and immobilization devices. They are responsible for administering contrast agents, monitoring patients for adverse reactions, and obtaining optimum images. Image manipulation, archiving, and documentation in PACS and RIS systems are also key responsibilities. The role requires coordination with other departments for scheduling, responding to STAT orders, and maintaining equipment in optimal condition, including performing daily QC and implementing downtime procedures. Additionally, daily glucometer QC and procedures are performed, along with other assigned duties.

Requirements

Completion of a (JRCERT) accredited Radiologic Technology recognized by ARRT.
Strong leadership ability.
Good organizational skills.

Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
Current Registry with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.
Act 34-PA Criminal Record Check from the PA State Police system.
Act 33 with renewal.
Act 73 FBI.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

Collects pertinent data about the patient and procedure.
Reconfirms patient identification and verifies physician's order.
Assures proper screening protocol is completed prior to patient entering the scan room.
Verifies patient's pregnancy status when appropriate.
Provides information to the patient about the procedure, verifies consent, and answers questions.
Analyzes information during the assessment phase and determines optimal imaging parameters per diagnosis.
Determines whether the patient has been appropriately prepared for procedure and assesses contraindications.
Selects appropriate shielding and immobilization devices.
Reviews patient's chart/physician order to determine optimal scanning parameters for suspected pathology.
Administers contrast agents according to established guidelines, obtaining written consent and evaluating lab values.
Determines appropriate type and dose of contrast agent to be administered.
Completes oral contrast screening form when needed.
Monitors patient during exam for adverse reaction to contrast media.
Using sterile techniques, preps site and starts IV when applicable.
Obtains optimum images during scan and reformats images as needed.
Sends images to PACS for interpretation by radiologist and archives images as needed.
Documents information about patient care, exam, and patient history in appropriate record.
Verifies correct order is entered into RIS and documents appropriate patient history into PACS system.
Documents any exceptions from the established guidelines and scans appropriate documents into PACS system.
Completes medication reconciliation documentation per department policy.
Facilitates correspondence with all departments to ensure procedures are done in a timely manner.
Works with Centralized Scheduling, nursing units, and ER to accommodate STAT or ASAP orders.
Responds to emergency calls per department procedures.
Maintains equipment workstation in optimum condition.
Performs daily QC on CT equipment.
Assures adequate patient care and office supplies are maintained.
Reports equipment malfunction to service provider.
Implements downtime procedures when necessary and coordinates rescheduling of patients during equipment downtime.
Initiates established downtime procedures during HIS/RIS and PACS downtime.
Performs daily glucometer QC and procedure on patients.
Maintains annual glucometer competency.
Other duties as assigned.
