This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing computed tomography procedures, including CT procedures of an invasive nature. The CT Technologist ensures that all accurate and clinically relevant information is communicated with patients, their families, and co-workers at hand offs and other times as needed. They take all measures necessary to ensure that the appropriate and involved parties have communicated necessary information in order to allow for the best possible patient outcome. The technologist performs CT exams according to established protocol and with the least amount of radiation needed to obtain a quality image, explains and prepares the patient for all CT exams, and demonstrates a working knowledge of RIS, PACS, Work Day, and other computer software as assigned. They correctly identify each patient, verify the exam to be performed, and review each patient's medical history and clinical diagnosis for appropriateness of the exam. The technologist reviews CT images for technique, positioning, laterality, patient demographics, and image quality, and repeats images of poor quality. They establish intravenous access using sterile technique to inject contrast media. Additionally, this role supports the School of Radiology educational process, supervises students as outlined in the Student Supervision policy, and trains radiography students and new employees while providing quality patient care. The technologist adheres to the Iowa Department of Public Health Radiation Safety Regulations as it applies to worker and patient safety in the CT department and follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents, and injuries.
