The CT Technologist I performs procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and standards, operating CT Scanners and associated equipment with a high level of proficiency. This includes scanner, post-processing stations/programs, IV contrast injectors, O2 and suction equipment, patient transport, and patient monitoring equipment. The role involves examining requests, verifying orders, and consulting with Radiologists when necessary. The technologist prepares patients for procedures, explains them, and obtains complete medical histories. They also review patient EMRs for pertinent clinical history, record medical history on requisitions, and correlate other test results. The technologist is responsible for the exam from beginning to completion of dictated results, prepares and administers IV contrast, and evaluates the technical quality of images. They recognize abnormal anatomy, perform basic patient care, inform nursing personnel of patient condition changes, and initiate life support measures if necessary. The role also includes assisting in "code blue" procedures, performing CT scanning, assisting Radiologists/PAs during invasive procedures, practicing proper sterile technique, and adhering to bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies. They are authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directed and practice radiation safety principles. Malfunctioning equipment is reported, and knowledge of working safely in environments with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease is maintained. Adherence to hospital fire and safety procedures, attendance policy, and completion of safety modules are required. The technologist operates the radiology computer system, documents contrast administration, and maintains a neat, orderly, and stocked work area. They also assist other medical personnel when needed.
