The CT Technologist performs Computed Tomography procedures in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures to ensure the best possible patient care services are delivered. Responsibilities

  • Performs all computed Tomography procedures according to established department protocols, including performing the appropriate volume of procedures according to patient load, ensuring correct patient information, technical settings, and slice thickness are entered prior to scanning, preparing and administering oral and intravenous contrast media, performing venipuncture when needed using sterile technique, completing appropriate patient documentation, displaying working knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, processing, recording, and archiving images, completing filming of all cases in a timely fashion, and completing processes to send image data to PACS.
  • Performs all tasks associated with the proper execution of a CT examination in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures, including accepting assignments, restocking and maintaining assigned work area/equipment, performing necessary cleaning of room and equipment, assisting in the movement of patients, and using appropriate restraint devices.
  • Performs all assigned RIS transactions to ensure accurate patient and procedure information is recorded in a timely fashion for the patient medical record and billing purposes, including completing patient exams in RIS, reviewing materials and exam charges, and reviewing patient exam information in WIZ.
  • Performs visual maintenance checks on all equipment used and reports all malfunctions to appropriate personnel, including performing quality assurance procedures, providing clear concise information regarding mechanical problems, and recording all equipment downtimes.
  • Provides radiation protection to patient, staff and self according to prescribed safety standards, including wearing and maintaining a dosimeter badge and demonstrating knowledge of and compliance to radiation safety practices.
  • Communicates with hospital staff and physicians in the performance of CT Scan procedures to exchange pertinent patient information, including assisting in scheduling, handling calls with courtesy and efficiency, and communicating identified patient-related problems.
  • Participates in on-call coverage as needed to ensure 24-hour coverage.
