Requirements
- Graduate of recognized, approved AMA council of Education program in radiological technology.
- State Radiologic License.
- Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
- Certification as Medical Radiological Technologist (MRT) by the state Medical Board.
- Requires current CPR and AED certification.
- CT registry through the ARRT will be required within six months of hire date.
Responsibilities
- Performs and maintains daily check-ups and quality control on CT scanners as required by credentialing organizations.
- Performs daily quality assurance of the CT schedule to address potential conflicts.
- Responsible for the non-technical component of the protocol process, including ensuring patient is properly prepped, monitoring missing requisitions, faxing transmissions to obtain missing requisitions, ensuring requisitions are completely filled out, evaluating requisitions to ensure exam requested matches the exam ordered, verifying exams are scheduled at the proper site, time slot, and day, and contacting the Customer Care Center for assistance with scheduling changes.
- Reviews requisitions to determine proper study; interviews patients for medical history; prepares patients for exams; administers oral and IV contrast; utilizes knowledge of Creatinine meter; explains benefits and risks of contrast to patient; positions patient appropriately; selects scan parameters and exposure factors; monitors patient while scanning; reviews images for quality and abnormalities.
- Adheres to OSHA guidelines and guidelines regarding radiation protection and recordkeeping.
- Completes documentation and file notations.
- Performs QC and patient tests according to protocol.
- Performs weekly Emergency Crash Cart QC.
- Works cooperatively with radiologist.
- Provides excellent care and service to patients.
- Explains exams, contrast, positioning, etc. to patients.
- Demonstrates proficient IV skills.
- Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxiety and obtain cooperation.
- Tracks patients from exam start to discharge, ensuring that stat exams are processed appropriately and expeditiously.
- In an emergency situation, assesses the patient's condition and assists radiologist as needed (i.e., with medicine or supplies).
- Performs IV insertion as needed following proper guidelines as established by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
