About The Position

UPMC North Central Pa. is seeking a CT Technologist to join their Weekend Program. This program offers a unique schedule with Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays off, allowing for more time during the week while still advancing your career. Participants will enjoy a consistent schedule, premium pay, and the opportunity to make a difference in patient care every weekend. The role involves performing advanced imaging procedures with minimal supervision, delivering exceptional patient care, and producing high-quality diagnostic images using advanced CT equipment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • ARRT certification required.
  • Minimum of six months of relevant CT experience required.
  • Strong technical, communication, and patient-care skills.
  • Work 48 weekends per year.
  • Work 24 hours per weekend (either two 12-hour shifts or three 8-hour shifts).
  • Complete scheduled hours between Friday at 3:00 p.m. and Monday at 7:00 a.m.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification required, or must be obtained within 30 days of hire in accordance with AHA standards.

Nice To Haves

  • CT certification or eligibility preferred.
  • ARRT registry-eligible candidates are welcome to apply and must obtain ARRT certification within six months of hire.
  • CT certification must be obtained within 18 months of obtaining a primary ARRT registry or within 18 months of hire if a primary registry has already been earned.
  • Graduates of accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology programs must obtain NMTCB (CNMT) certification within 18 months of hire.
  • Current ARRT (R) or NMTCB/CNMT certification required, or eligibility to obtain certification within the required timeframe.
  • Candidates practicing under a temporary permit are encouraged to apply.
  • While working under a temporary permit: Direct supervision by a licensed radiologic technologist is required.
  • While working under a temporary permit: Administration of IV contrast and participation in contrast-enhanced CT procedures requiring IV contrast are not permitted.
  • While working under a temporary permit: ARRT certification must be obtained within 180 days of permit issuance.

Responsibilities

  • Performing computed tomography procedures using established imaging protocols, including contrast administration.
  • Utilizing advanced CT equipment for image acquisition, analysis, reconstruction, and documentation.
  • Independently adjusting protocols and applying sound clinical judgment to obtain optimal diagnostic images.
  • Administering oral, rectal, and IV contrast in accordance with physician orders and department policies.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in venipuncture and power injector usage.
  • Reviewing patient histories, assessing physician orders, and applying department protocols to ensure accurate imaging results.
  • Accurately documenting patient information and maintaining imaging records within electronic systems.
  • Ensuring exams are properly coded, tracked, archived, and charged through RIS and PACS systems.
  • Verifying patient identity using two approved identifiers and following all universal safety protocols.
  • Providing compassionate patient care by clearly explaining procedures, easing concerns, and fostering cooperation.
  • Collaborating effectively with physicians, nurses, and fellow team members to support efficient patient care.

  • Extra weekday shifts are optional and paid at the standard weekday rate but do not replace required weekend hours.
