About The Position

This position involves operating CT and X-ray equipment, processing images, and maintaining equipment. The role requires preparing patients for exams, explaining procedures in layman's terms, and ensuring consent forms are obtained. The technologist will perform various X-ray exams according to established standards, position patients, and adjust equipment for correct exposure. Monitoring patient condition, recognizing and reporting abnormalities, and keying in patient history data are also crucial. The role includes processing and maintaining exposed images, labeling films, and ensuring proper marking and identification. Related duties as required are also part of the responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Radiologic Technology program, required.
  • New York State and/or Connecticut Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist, required.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration, required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience performing radiologic exams, required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for exam, relieving anxiety by translating examination into layman terms and ensuring consent forms are obtained if necessary.
  • Performs various x-ray exams according to established standards, procedures, and policies. Positions patient for radiographs, arranges immobilization and supportive devices, and adjusts x-ray equipment for correct exposure.
  • Monitors patient’s condition in accordance with technical and safety standards, recognizing and promptly reporting motor abnormalities, fainting, discoloration, contrast reactions, etc., to the Radiologist.
  • Keys in Patient history data and other pertinent information obtained from requisition.
  • Monitors patient’s condition during the procedure.
  • Operates equipment for transferring computed images to film and archival of disc memory to tape.
  • Processes and maintains exposed images, labels film for identification, and maintains required records.
  • Utilizes film markers and ensures images are properly marked as the “right” or “left” side.
  • Ensures images are legibly labeled with correct date and patient identification.
  • Enters the exam onto the daily log sheet as needed.
  • Properly completes the correct tracking steps for each examination.
  • Performs related duties, as required.
