About The Position

The CT Technologist works with radiologists to diagnose and treat patients using radiologic imaging. This role involves preparing the x-ray room, explaining procedures to patients, performing patient assessments, and completing diagnostic tests including x-ray, portable x-ray, and CT scans. The technologist must accurately interpret physician scanning instructions for CT, prepare and operate CT scan equipment, and position patients correctly. They also maintain knowledge of oxygen delivery methods and evaluate its effectiveness. Patient care is to be performed in a manner that optimizes safety and minimizes errors, treating patients and families with respect. The role includes managing, operating, cleaning, inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and completing quality control for all radiology equipment. Administering radiology tests, understanding their purpose, side effects, and contraindications is crucial. Knowledge of radiology contrast agents and assessing for adverse reactions is required. The technologist must follow departmental policies regarding medications to reduce errors and maintain knowledge of computerized and manual charting, ordering, documenting, and charging for radiology services. Attending department meetings and educational in-services is necessary for professional competency, along with obtaining appropriate hospital-specific education and training. Participation in department data collection, quality assurance, radiology/CT updates, internal and external quality control, proficiency testing, and performance improvement processes is expected. The role requires responding to emergency situations, providing critical care duties, CPR, and portable imaging/monitoring. Educating hospital staff, patients, families, and significant others based on identified learning needs and evaluating the effectiveness of this education is also part of the responsibilities. Adherence to all hospital policies, procedures, safety plans, and standards imposed by regulatory organizations is mandatory. Assisting other techs as needed, regular attendance, timeliness, and adherence to dress code are required. The role may involve working over as needed or changing shift hours as determined by the radiology department manager. This description outlines essential functions but does not exclude other duties. Additionally, testing personnel responsibilities include following laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance. Maintaining records for proficiency testing, adhering to quality control policies, identifying and correcting problems that may affect test performance or reporting, and documenting corrective actions are also required. High complexity testing must be performed under the direct supervision of a general supervisor if personnel qualification requirements dictate.

Requirements

Graduate of AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology
National Board for Radiology Technology Credentialed- ARRT
Associate or Bachelor’s Degree required
Must have a current license with the Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners
Current BLS certification required
Must have Computed Tomography (CT) certification
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
Strong written and verbal skills
Ability to work alone or with minimal supervision
Professional/Courteous rapport with patients, families, co-workers, physicians, and visitors
Ability to work under and handle stress in an appropriate manner
Ability to work long hours between breaks and meals may be required
Ability to lift up to and move minimum of 100 lbs
Basic Computer skills

Nice To Haves

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in multiple disciplines of Radiologic Technology preferred
ACLS and PALS preferred
Membership, American Society Radiologic Technologist preferred
Additional languages preferred

Responsibilities

Determine patients x-ray needs by reading request from physician
Make exposures necessary for the requested procedure
Prepare x-ray room prior to patient arrival
Explain procedures to patients prior to being performed
Perform patient assessments, complete diagnostic testing, including x-ray, portable x-ray, CT
Accurately interprets physician’s scanning instructions for CT
Prepare and operate the CT scan equipment, positioning the patient to capture the appropriate images
Maintain knowledge of various methods of oxygen delivery, including the use of portable oxygen
Able to evaluate the effectiveness of oxygen and hazards thereof
Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors
Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity
Coordinate and direct patient care to ensure patient’s needs are met and that hospital and department policies are followed
Manage, operate, clean, inspect, test, troubleshoot, complete required QC, and operate all radiology equipment safely, correctly, and effectively
Administer radiology tests, understand the purpose of each and the possible side effects associated with each, along with contraindications
Knowledgeable of all radiology contrast and able to assess for adverse reactions
Follow departmental policy and procedure regarding medications to reduce medication errors
Maintain knowledge of radiology department computerized and manual charting, ordering, documenting, and charging of all radiology services and procedures
Attend department meetings and educational in-services to maintain professional competency
Obtain appropriate hospital-specific education and training when necessary
Participate in department data collection and quality assurance to ensure quality patient care and safety
Participate in radiology/CT updates, internal and external quality control, proficiency testing, and performance improvement processes
Respond to all emergency situations within the facility and provide critical care duties or procedures required for treatment, CPR, and portable imaging and monitoring
Educate hospital staff when necessary
Coordinate and direct patient care to ensure that the patient’s needs are met, and that hospital policy is followed
Educate patients, families, and significant others based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning
Adhere to all Jackson Parish Hospital policies, procedures, safety plans, and all standards imposed by regulatory organizations
Assist other techs as needed
Regular attendance and timeliness is required
Unexcused absences will not be tolerated
Adhere to department and hospital dress code policy and procedure
Professional appearance is mandatory
Perform all/any additional duties as assigned by the radiology department manager, including working over as needed or change of shift hours as determined necessary by the radiology department manager
Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient results
Maintain records which demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples
Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies
Be able to identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, and either correct the problem or notify the appropriate supervisor
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the department’s established performance specifications
Only perform high complexity testing under the on-site direct supervision of a general supervisor, if required by personnel qualification requirements
