The CT Technologist I is responsible for examining requests and verifying orders on each assigned patient. They will refer and question orders to the Radiologist before performing the exam and contact the ordering provider for discrepancies. The technologist will properly identify patients using two identifiers, assist them, and offer a brief explanation of the procedures. They will prepare patients for the procedure with a full explanation, document on appropriate worksheets, and interview patients for a complete medical history. Reviewing in-patients, ER, and outpatients EMR’s to obtain pertinent clinical history and recording medical history on requisitions are also key duties. The technologist will correlate other test results and laboratory data with the exam being performed and assume responsibility for the exam from beginning to completion of dictated results. They will prepare and administer IV contrast according to departmental protocols, record contrast type and amount upon request, and evaluate the technical quality of images, consulting with a Radiologist if needed. Recognizing abnormal anatomy and processing additional, reconstructed images, and/or measurements as instructed are also part of the role. Basic patient care functions will be performed, and appropriate nursing personnel will be informed of any changes in the patient’s condition. Life support measures will be initiated when necessary, and assistance will be provided during "code blue" procedures. The technologist will perform CT scanning and assist the Radiologist/PA during invasive procedures, practicing proper sterile technique and adhering to bloodborne pathogens, isolation, and infection control policies. They are authorized to obtain medication or contrast material as directed for administration by a licensed practitioner. Practicing radiation safety principles for self, employees, patients, and family members, and following appropriate radiation safety standards are crucial. Malfunctioning equipment will be reported, and knowledge and skills required to work safely in an environment with potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious disease will be maintained. Adherence to hospital fire and safety procedures, attending in-service classes, and completing all required safety modules are expected. Work will be performed accurately and timely, even in crisis situations. Shift rotation, including call back, holidays, and weekends, is required, as is adherence to the Atrium Health attendance policy. The technologist will operate the radiology computer system, document contrast administration, maintain a neat and orderly work area, keep the area stocked, and clean all work areas. Assistance will be provided to other medical personnel when performing exams or services in conjunction with a CT scan.
