About The Position

Under the direction of the designated section leader, leads or performs Computed Tomography Imaging according to protocols established for various age groups of patients, requiring minimal supervision. This role is at a freestanding facility and in addition to CT, must also perform x-ray. The technologist will lead or perform a variety of procedures for CT, including, but not limited to, basic portable, fluoroscopy, extremity and chest x-rays, advanced computer skills, biopsies, drainage, trauma alerts, core CT protocols, CT advanced level recons, Neuro and Cardiovascular CTAs, independent workstation proficiency, IV skills, QA maintenance, and sterile contrast studies. These duties require the application of advanced Computed Tomography principles, independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation. The technologist will assume responsibility for designated areas or procedures as required, serve as a resource person, assist with work schedules, participate in interdepartmental committees, assist with policy, protocol, and QA program development, and ensure proper safety protocols are followed. The role also involves assisting the Section Leader in orienting, scheduling, evaluating, disciplining, and assigning work to employees. A key responsibility is assessing the age-specific needs of the patients. The technologist is responsible for performing job duties in accordance with the mission, vision, and values of Tampa General Hospital.

Requirements

  • One (1) year progressive responsibility within a CT diagnostic imaging department.
  • Registered American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) as a Radiation Therapy (RT), Nuclear Medicine (NM), or Radiography (R).
  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
  • CT Registry required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Leads or performs Computed Tomography Imaging according to established protocols with minimal supervision.
  • Performs x-ray procedures in addition to CT.
  • Conducts a variety of CT procedures including basic portable, fluoroscopy, extremity and chest x-rays.
  • Utilizes advanced computer skills for CT procedures.
  • Performs biopsies, drainage procedures, and responds to trauma alerts.
  • Executes core CT protocols and advanced level reconstructions.
  • Performs Neuro and Cardiovascular CTAs.
  • Demonstrates independent workstation proficiency.
  • Possesses and utilizes IV skills.
  • Maintains QA standards.
  • Acquires sterile contrast studies.
  • Applies advanced Computed Tomography principles requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative.
  • Assumes responsibility for designated areas or procedures.
