About The Position

This is a part-time position in the CT Tech Pool at AMC Grafton. The role involves operating CT equipment to perform diagnostic procedures, including basic imaging processing, and various body parts such as head, chest, abdomen, pelvis, orthopedic, and extremities. The technologist will obtain patient medical history, ensure exam accuracy by comparing requisitions to physician orders, position patients, select scanning factors, and administer contrast media under radiologist direction. Responsibilities also include preparing and maintaining records, entering patient information into the radiology information system, documenting billing codes, performing equipment quality assurance tests, and evaluating new products. The role requires patient positioning and transporting duties, which involve lifting and pushing/pulling, and the ability to provide age-appropriate care based on principles of growth and development.

Requirements

  • Radiographer license issued by the state of Wisconsin
  • Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Computed Tomography (CT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) needs to be obtained within 18 months
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology.
  • Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and basic radiation safety.
  • Competent in IV and venipuncture (if required by facility).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and patient service skills to work effectively with physicians, patients and other staff members.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Intermediate computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Competently operates CT equipment to perform basic and intermediate diagnostic procedures.
  • Obtains medical history from patients and compares requisitions to physicians' orders to ensure exam accuracy.
  • Positions patient and selects proper scanning factors, adjusts factors to attain the appropriate images, and provides radiation protection and safety in accordance with regulatory agencies.
  • Prepares and administers contrast media under the direction of the Radiologist, and assists in the proper scanning techniques.
  • Provides measurements and additional slices for accurate interpretation with direction from the Radiologist.
  • Post-processes images as directed and accurately identifies and labels images identifying patient name, medical record unit (MRU) number, and location or position of scan on all images.
  • Prepares and maintains records in accordance with various regulatory agencies and enters patient and study information into the radiology information system, and documents billing codes of procedures performed to ensure accurate patient charges.
  • Identifies equipment performance issues and performs equipment quality assurance tests and calibration procedures.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff and evaluates new products and equipment.
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
