About The Position

The CSCD Residential Monitor is responsible for supervising and controlling residents during various activities within the SATF (Secure Adolescent Treatment Facility). This role involves maintaining order, preventing incidents, conducting checks, documenting events, and ensuring adherence to program policies and procedures. The position requires a high level of responsibility in managing resident behavior, safety, and security, while also serving as a positive role model.

Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or older.
High school education or GED equivalent.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors and the general public.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to plan and execute work.
Ability to exercise good judgment.
Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with residents, staff and others.
Demonstrate knowledge of security procedures and techniques.
Demonstrate working knowledge of department policies, rules, regulations, and PREA (Prison Rape Elimination) after training.
Demonstrate ability to deescalate and handle difficult situations among persons of divergent backgrounds.
Ability to deal effectively with possible hostile aggressive and criminally minded population.
Confront negative behavior in a positive manner.

Nice To Haves

Prior Military experience is preferred.
Prior experience in a correctional or residential setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

Supervise and maintain control of individuals and groups during all SATF activities, including cleaning, classes, study, counseling, meals, recreation, and other authorized activities.
Prevent and report incidents of escapes, self-injury, and violent or aggressive behaviors among residents.
Conduct visual checks and headcounts, documenting each as required.
Maintain chronological records in daily logs of events occurring during the work shift.
Report resident rule infractions by submitting incident reports.
Participate in case staffing with Residential Counselors and medical treatment staff, and in disciplinary hearings when required.
Enforce resident sign-in and sign-out procedures.
Ensure fire and safety procedures for residents.
Receive new residents and process them according to departmental rules and regulations, including searching them according to PREA and CJAD standards.
Log and store resident belongings, and issue linens and clothing.
Conduct new resident orientation, including providing the resident handbook, explaining grievance procedures, and program policies.
Monitor and conduct urine screening and breathalyzer testing.
Perform room searches to control contraband and take appropriate actions.
Answer inquiries with appropriate information regarding resident behaviors.
Maintain the facility in a neat and clean manner by supervising residents in cleanup activities.
Monitor resident curfew, furlough, wake-up, and meal schedules.
Monitor mess hall and classroom procedures for residents.
Escort residents to and from outside appointments.
Serve as a positive role model for residents.
Operate vans and transport residents as assigned.
Attend all assigned mandatory training to obtain and maintain certification.
Provide guidance and assistance to residents as necessary, informing their supervision officer and counselor of pertinent information.
Provide detailed reports when necessary.
Conduct searches of lockers, pat downs, strip searches, and check vehicles and property as necessary for security and safety.
Testify in court as needed.
Communicate with other staff as assigned, including van drivers and CSO.
Monitor the physical fitness of residents to ensure safety and prevent injury.
Demonstrate knowledge of security procedures and techniques.
Demonstrate working knowledge of department policies, rules, regulations, and PREA after training.
Demonstrate ability to de-escalate and handle difficult situations among persons of divergent backgrounds.
