Non-Certified CS/SPD Technicians are responsible for cleaning and maintaining surgical tools and hospital equipment. It is your job to make sure that the sterilized tools are then organized into trays containing the instruments required for routine or special surgeries. You are also responsible for checking equipment to make sure it is in good repair and up to date. This role will provide you with hands-on learning as well as the ability to become certified and move into higher positions within the organization. A caregiver in this position works evenings from 1:00PM - 9:30PM, with rotating weekend call requirements. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Sterile Processing certification (e.g., CRCST, CSPDT, CFER or CER) within 18 months after hire unless an extension is granted at the purview of leadership
  • Ability to use the computerized instrument tracking system to perform assigned duties

Nice To Haves

  • One year of healthcare experience or a similar background in mechanical/manufacturing assembly
  • Military experience, such as Hospital Corpsmen (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR), Aircraft Maintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F), or similar, will be considered
  • Basic computer skills

Responsibilities

  • Perform case pull functions.
  • Demonstrate proper handling of equipment, instrumentation and chemicals while adhering to preventative maintenance schedules and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards during the decontamination process.
  • Scan, sort and inspect instruments for functionality and cleanliness.
  • Assemble, wrap and label instruments according to provided lists following documented procedures.
  • Ensure proper cleaning, decontamination, assembly and high-level disinfection of reusable instrumentation in accordance with AAMI ST79 standards.
  • Monitor and control the distribution of supplies and equipment.
  • Perform record-keeping functions within the electronic tracking system, including processing, sterilization and quality assurance documentation.
  • Participate in in-service education.
  • Build case carts using electronic preference cards and dispatch them to appropriate locations.
