Job Title CS SPD Non Certified Technician Location Cleveland Facility Cleveland Clinic Main Campus Department Job Code C1111E Shift Evenings Schedule 3:00pm-11:00pm/11:00pm-7:30am Job Summary Provides safe and efficient practices for decontamination, instrument inspection, assembly, wrapping, and sterilization of all reprocessed instruments and distribution equipment. Responsible for case cart management and ensuring compliance with departmental standards. Job Details Responsibilities: Performs case pull functions efficiently and accurately. Supports departmental initiatives to meet productivity standards and adapt to flexible staffing needs. Demonstrates proper handling of equipment, instrumentation, and chemicals while adhering to preventative maintenance schedules and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards during the decontamination process. Scans, sorts, and inspects instruments for functionality and cleanliness, assembles instruments according to provided lists, wraps, and labels them following documented procedures. Ensures proper cleaning, decontamination, assembly, and high-level disinfection of reusable instrumentation in accordance with AAMI ST79 standards. Monitors and controls the distribution of supplies and equipment. Performs record-keeping functions within the electronic tracking system, including processing, sterilization, and quality assurance documentation. Participates in in-service education to stay updated on best practices and industry standards. Builds case carts using electronic preference cards and dispatches them to appropriate locations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • HS diploma or equivalent GED required.
  • If hired after August 1, 2016, Sterile Processing certification (e.g., CRCST, CSPDT, CFER, or CER) is required within 18 months after hire unless an extension is granted at the purview of leadership.
  • Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must possess the ability to multi-task and demonstrate proficiency in reading and writing.
  • Must have the ability to present themselves in a professional manner.
  • Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting items that weigh 20-30 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to push a fully loaded cart weighing up to 200+ pounds.
  • Possible exposure to biological and chemical contamination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to within normal range.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of healthcare experience or a similar background in mechanical/manufacturing assembly is preferred.
  • Must have basic computer skills.
  • Ability to use the computerized instrument tracking system to perform assigned duties, including obtaining instrument count sheets, special handling instructions for instrumentation, documenting sterilization loads, and other tasks.
  • Military experience , such as Hospital Corpsmen (HM), Machinery Repairman (MR), Aircraft Maintenance Technician (2A3X3), Biomedical Equipment Specialist (68A), Small Arms Repairer (91F), or similar, will be considered.
