About The Position

The Crystal Growth Technician is responsible for executing controlled crystal growth processes to produce high-purity silicon and/or germanium crystals that meet defined quality, performance, and customer requirements. This role ensures precise control of process parameters, accurate documentation, and material traceability in compliance with ISO quality management system requirements and applicable ITAR regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience in crystal growth, semiconductor materials processing, or high-temperature manufacturing environments preferred
  • Experience handling high-purity materials and contamination-sensitive processes
  • Experience operating and maintaining complex processing or manufacturing equipment
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical and electrical systems
  • Understanding of crystal growth principles and process control
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, specifications, and process instructions
  • Proficiency with computer systems for data entry, monitoring, and reporting
  • Ability to apply mathematical and analytical concepts to process monitoring and control
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management systems
  • Working knowledge of ITAR requirements related to controlled materials and technical data
  • High attention to detail and strong process discipline
  • Effective problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Adaptability to shift work and production demands
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, and compliance
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform hands-on equipment operation
  • Ability to lift and handle materials or equipment up to 50 lbs in accordance with safety procedures

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned duties in accordance with approved procedures, work instructions, travelers, and safety requirements
  • Set up, operate, and monitor crystal growth furnaces and associated processing equipment
  • Prepare, verify, and load raw materials and charge compositions in accordance with approved specifications
  • Monitor and control critical growth parameters including temperature profiles, pull rates, rotation speeds, and atmospheric conditions
  • Adjust process parameters within defined limits to maintain crystal structure, purity, and quality
  • Perform in-process and post-growth inspections including visual inspection, dimensional measurement, and defect identification
  • Conduct material qualification, acceptance testing, and disposition of grown crystals in accordance with established procedures
  • Maintain accurate records of growth conditions, process data, lot traceability, and inspection results in compliance with document control requirements
  • Generate technical and material reports to support internal review and customer requirements
  • Identify process deviations and initiate corrective actions in accordance with established procedures
  • Troubleshoot equipment and process issues; assist with preventive maintenance, calibration, and system verification activities
  • Ensure proper handling, identification, storage, and protection of high-purity and brittle materials
  • Support continuous improvement and yield optimization initiatives
  • Adhere to all quality, safety, environmental, information security, and ITAR compliance requirements
