About The Position

The Cryogenics Depot Center (DRP-14) provides Fleet Readiness Center (FRC) customers from JBMDL and other east coast FRC Facilities with Nitrogen and Oxygen Specialty Gases and Liquids for, Aviation Breathing equipment (ABO), training, and other related materials to support all projects and research and development activities throughout the Fleet. You will work with a team of other Cryogenic technicians to schedule and provide Bulk Liquid Nitrogen, Liquid Oxygen, transfers and other specialty gases for the Fleet to Mobile and Secured Storage Tanks. Requirements

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required customer clearance for access to systems, facilities, equipment and property.
  • Experience with high pressure (1,000psi+) gaseous/liquid systems.
  • Knowledge of hazardous systems, such as cryogenic, flammable, hypergolic, pyrophoric.
  • Knowledge of pressure vessel system safety protocol and proper handling.
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. or more.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience (work with machines and general tooling).
  • Experience in process piping installation, especially in stainless steel, CPVC, and cryogenic applications.
  • General knowledge of pressure fitting types (Compression, JIC, NPT, and MP/HP).
  • Demonstrated experience where quick-thinking and problem-solving plays a critical role.
  • Use of precision measuring instruments (calipers, torque wrenches, gauges).
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics.
  • Ability to read and determine hydrostatic testing dates on cylinders for filling of Oxygen and Nitrogen gases.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools (wrenches, grinders, sanders pipe cutters, and other equipment.)
  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, or an Associate’s degree with a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Fabrication of cables/harnesses for Oxygen and Nitrogen servicing equipment.
  • Fabrication of High Pressure Oxygen and High Pressure Nitrogen piping assemblies for the Oxygen and Nitrogen servicing equipment.
  • Wiring and piping layouts for CSS 2000gl tank installs and other Cryogenic Equipment installations.
  • Assists in the development, tests and validates prototype high pressure gaseous systems used to support navy and Marine Corps flight operations.
  • Develops and executes manufacturing processes of support equipment related to the Cryogenic field.
  • Adheres to standard operating and safety procedures utilized within DRP-14 workspace and ensures protocols are met.
  • Operates liquid and gaseous nitrogen and oxygen generation systems.
  • Diagnoses systematic problems and performs corrective action prior to major component failure.
  • Fills orders and issues cryogenics products and supplies per customer request, and documents transactions.
  • Prepares request for supplies, and material for the support equipment and keeps records of the cryogenics supply inventory.
  • Assists with the transfer of cryogenics liquids from the Large Liquid Nitrogen system or Large Oxygen system to smaller cryogenic containers for distribution.
  • Loads and unloads cryogenic products such as nitrogen cylinders, oxygen cylinders in liquid and gas forms.
  • Delivers and retrieves empty cylinders, valve connectors, replacement fittings and cryogenic supplies to and from Fleet Readiness Center locations (FRCs).
  • Coordinates routine preventative maintenance in coordination with representatives from the Engineering Group on the cryogenics filling station, high pressure cylinders, Dewar’s and vacuum pumps which includes: changing fluids, purging, pre-cooling, and cleaning various cryogenics systems.
  • Diagnoses mechanical problems of cryogenic systems and containers such as removing ice plugs, detecting leaks, fixing and/or replacing relief valves on cryogenic vessels.
  • Operates material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, hand trucks or dollies to move cryogenic containers or reorganize inventory.
  • Uses computerized system to generate invoices, receipts and track inventory.
  • Informs supervisor of the need for additional standard stock items or cryogenics products.
  • Communicates and schedules with outside contractors picking up and dropping off cryogenics servicing equipment for power blast and paint.
