About The Position

HRL Laboratories pioneers the next frontiers of physical and information science, delivering transformative technologies in automotive, aerospace and defense. HRL advances critical structural and functional materials and semiconductor devices that enable precision navigation, quantum technologies and extreme-environment performance, leveraging digital manufacturing and scalable microfabrication techniques. The company is seeking a highly motivated candidate to conduct ultra-low temperature, low-noise electrical measurements of advanced semiconductor devices, including spin qubits. This role involves developing novel measurement systems, automating test methodologies, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to advance the state of the art in quantum and semiconductor device physics.

Requirements

  • BS with 8+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Cryogenic Device Testing
  • Detailed knowledge of cryogenic device testing and equipment
  • Deep understanding of semiconductor device physics
  • Proficiency in analog circuit design and familiarity with digital electrical circuits.
  • Experience in scientific programming for data analysis (specific language is flexible)
  • Proven ability to develop and use automated data acquisition systems
  • Strong work ethic, natural scientific curiosity, and a passion for complex problem-solving
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct ultra-low temperature and low-noise electrical measurements of semiconductor spin qubit devices in collaboration with other device engineers.
  • Collaborate with the measurement-system-engineering team to identify and implement improvements to device-control, interconnect, and environmental subsystems.
  • Write script-level code to support experimental development, automate semiconductor data acquisition, and streamline hardware interfacing.
  • Analyze complex test results, document and standardize test methodologies, and maintain organized summaries of experimental data.
  • Report findings through frequent technical presentations and written reports to internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and utilize novel measurement systems and test procedures while maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment.
