About The Position

The Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission (APMC) is seeking a Junior Crude Oil Marketing Representative for their Calgary, AB office. This role is crucial for supporting the commercial and analytical functions of the Crude Oil Marketing team. The representative will be responsible for validating crude oil purchase statements and commercial settlements, assisting with crude oil scheduling and pipeline operations, monitoring volumes and market positions, and identifying any discrepancies that could affect Crown revenues. This position offers hands-on experience in crude oil marketing, transportation, settlement, and commercial optimization, providing an opportunity to develop industry expertise alongside seasoned professionals. The APMC is a Crown agent focused on enhancing the value of Alberta's petroleum resources, managing the province's royalty share of petroleum, overseeing interests in the Sturgeon Refinery, and leading commercial ventures that benefit Albertans.

Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 3 - 5 years of relevant experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with coding and/or leveraging AI for the purpose of creating process efficiency would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate all crude oil purchase statements to ensure accuracy of volumes, base pricing, tariffs, terminal fees, pipeline loss allowance, shrinkage, equalization adjustments, blending costs, and other applicable deductions in accordance with contract terms.
  • Assist the Senior Marketing Specialist with economic evaluations to determine optimal netback markets and verify that pricing and transportation economics align with contractual and commercial expectations.
  • Investigate and resolve statement discrepancies and variances with counterparties and internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with crude oil scheduling, nominations, deliveries, pipeline movements, and other operational requirements as required to facilitate the efficient movement of crude oil.
  • Support business development activities as required, including market research, identifying potential commercial opportunities, and preparing analysis to support crude oil marketing initiatives.
  • Support contract administration activities as required, including maintaining contract records, pricing terms, and related documentation.
  • Maintain supporting documentation and audit trails for statement reviews.
  • Actively participate in the implementation of the ETRM system, including supporting process development, testing, data validation, and user acceptance activities.
