About The Position

The City of East Providence is seeking seasonal Crossing Guards to fill per diem vacancies as needed. These positions are not affiliated with a professional union, and employees are not guaranteed a minimum number of work hours per week. Guards work school crossing hours as needed, in the morning and afternoon, and must complete required safety, public-contact, and annual in-service training. The City will create a certified list of qualified candidates that remains active for one year after certification by the Personnel Hearing Board. Pay is $60 per day.

Requirements

• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Possess a valid driver's license.
• Know the job-required guidelines in the most recent edition and revisions of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
• Complete a background check and present a Criminal Background Check (BCI) following an offer of employment.
• Have no felony conviction, or misdemeanor conviction within the three years before the date of employment.
• Pass a physical exam, physical back screen, and drug screen test following an offer of employment.

Responsibilities

• Work school crossing guard hours as needed in the morning and afternoon.
• Complete training in safe traffic control practices and public contact techniques.
• Complete an annual in-service training program organized or authorized by the East Providence Police Department.
• Remain drug free and be subject to random drug screen tests.
