Requirements

• Some knowledge of local traffic laws
• Basic traffic safety knowledge
• Basic first aid knowledge
• Basic interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to communicate clearly with children
• Ability to enforce traffic rules firmly yet kindly
• Must complete an approved School Crossing Guard Safety Training Course before beginning duties
• Must commit to attending yearly in-service training

Responsibilities

• Observing vehicular traffic and noting any violations to report to the Police Officer
• Monitoring behaviors around school grounds for safety concerns
• Operating flashing caution lights and setting up orange cones to alert motorists of students crossing
• Directing traffic and instructing children on safety procedures
• Ensuring the maintenance of crossing guard equipment
• Requesting necessary supplies
• Submitting accurate payroll time sheets
• Effective communication with public safety officers and emergency response personnel for reporting incidents and ensuring swift action
