About The Position

Farmers Mutual Hail (FMH) is seeking a qualified undergraduate to intern in Iowa as part of their 2027 Summer Internship Program. This is a paid internship that runs from Monday, May 17 through Friday, August 6, with the potential to transition into a full-time, permanent position. The program aims to protect the livelihoods of America's farmers through comprehensive farm insurance solutions. FMH has been farmer-owned for over 125 years and is known as America's Crop Insurance Company™.

Requirements

  • Must be a currently-enrolled sophomore, junior, or senior at a college or university majoring in Agriculture (May 2027 graduates will not be eligible).
  • Strong organizational, time management, and attention-to-detail skills are necessary.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Must reside in the state of Iowa for the duration of the internship.
  • Must have valid driver’s license, car insurance, and a reliable vehicle to travel.
  • This position is not eligible for sponsorship for work authorization by Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company, SI. Therefore, if you will require sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, we cannot consider your application at this time.

  • Basic knowledge of agriculture, farming practices, or crop production preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops customer relationships and interpersonal skills by working and observing interaction between Territory Sales Managers and Agents, customers, and peers.
  • Develops a clear understanding of the differences between Multi-Peril Crop Insurance (MPCI) and Private Products within the crop insurance industry.
  • Observes and assists with Multi-Peril and Private Product claims and adjusting process.
  • Gains essential background knowledge on how the organization is run and its purpose in the industry.
  • Gains an understanding of agricultural practices and learns about crops in various regions assigned throughout the country.
  • Learns how to explain various loss procedures for the major crops insured.
  • Become familiar with Precision Technology as it applies to individual agricultural producers.
  • Job shadows at the Home Office in West Des Moines, IA to gain a broad understanding of the business cycle and to observe and be a part of the culture at FMH.
  • Obtains experience with project presentation skills to help intern deliver a successful Capstone presentation to finish out the internship.
