As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dynamic and experienced Sr. Critical Facility Engineer (Shift Lead) to join our team and drive our relationships with hyperscale clients to new heights. The Senior Critical Facility Engineer is responsible for ensuring that all electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment within the data center operate at peak efficiency and the utmost levels of reliability. This involves both planned preventative maintenance of equipment, daily corrective work, and response to emergency issues. The Senior Critical Facility Engineer is our front line when it comes to hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. They are expected to be a singular focal point for all facility operations within a given data center. Data center equipment that supports mission-critical servers must maintain better than 99.999% uptime. This equipment includes, but is not limited to standby diesel generators, related fuel systems, electrical switchgear, UPSs, PDUs, AHUs, related thermal management equipment and systems, chemical treatment systems (where applicable), pumps, motors, VFDs, and building automation systems.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent with two years of technical school with an emphasis on mission-critical operations, industrial manufacturing, or relevant military operations experience in electrical and mechanical systems.
  • 3 - 5 years of experience as a Critical Facilities Engineer or other relevant critical facility infrastructure leadership experience.
  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in data center engineering operations (DCEO), maintenance, and engineering supporting critical facilities operations, required.
  • Demonstrated, working technical knowledge and understanding of critical data center systems, including HVAC, standby emergency power, uninterruptible power supplies, and associated infrastructure.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong background in operating mechanical and electrical critical systems, design review, layout, installation, including the ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical one lines.
  • Ability to conduct power- and thermal system capacity, safety, and code compliance assessments.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 72, NFPA 25 and compliance issues
  • Hands-on experience installing, maintaining and troubleshooting large commercial and industrial electrical systems including: Medium-voltage switchgear, 480/277 Volt and 208/120-volt, electrical generation and distribution systems, Diesel powered AC generators, Static UPS systems (where applicable), Dynamic Rotary UPS Systems (where applicable), Multi-string flooded cell batteries and monitoring systems, Static switches, PLC and relay logic controls, Power monitoring systems, Data center power distribution and management systems
  • Current knowledge of NFPA Electrical, Fire and Life Safety and building codes, or local regulatory equivalent within the location of the data center.
  • Expert knowledge in industrial safety best practices (i.e., lockout/tag out, arc flash protection, OSHA, and state regulations)

Responsibilities

  • Lead Critical Facility Engineers in daily operations and maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Maintain focus on assigned tasks while ensuring a strong commitment to safety.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot critical facility systems.
  • Complete preventive and corrective maintenance activities across multiple technical disciplines.
  • Inspect and maintain HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Respond to facility emergencies, environmental issues, and air quality concerns.
  • Create, track, and close work requests and work orders; verify completion of assigned work.
  • Monitor contractor performance and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Provide electrical, mechanical, controls, and water chemistry expertise for data center operations.
  • Coordinate with management, contractors, and consultants on construction, commissioning, and system integration projects.
  • Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs and system commissioning activities.
  • Drive operational efficiency through performance analysis, technology improvements, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Manage electrical capacity and loading for data center white space and back-of-house systems.
  • Support maintenance activities during non-standard hours as required.
  • Oversee contractors performing critical maintenance on UPS, generators, switchgear, chillers, and related systems.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergency situations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
