The Principal Critical Facility Architect provides technical leadership in the design, development, and implementation of backup power systems, communication rooms, data/control centers, and alarm system deliverables. The primary role involves the electrical design of power systems within PG&E facilities, requiring a State of California Registered Professional Electrical Engineer. This includes electrical design for data centers, communication rooms in offices and service centers, and remote communication locations. The position also covers backup power solutions such as generators, backup batteries, and 48 VDC power plants. Additionally, the critical facility architect will manage building upgrades and replacements for IT-operated facilities, encompassing primary power plants, backup power plants, and building infrastructure, collectively referred to as “power systems”. The role involves providing budgetary estimates for power systems for client and IT projects, collaborating with other architect teams to ensure power systems meet operational needs, and working with corporate real estate and land agents on site selection and specifying IT power needs in shared facilities. The architect will set technical direction and assess the operational feasibility of power system solutions within IT network architecture and services standards to meet defined technical performance requirements. This includes evaluating the need for new power solutions and collaborating with architect teams to create prototypes and standards. The position acts as a technical lead for the critical facility team, engineering team, and project management teams implementing projects within critical facility programs and client projects. All employees are responsible for performing their jobs in accordance with PG&E’s vision and values. This position is hybrid, requiring approximately two days per week in an office within the service territory, with the remaining time worked from a remote office, based on business needs or company requirements.
